Most Classic Car people will actually drive their car (gasp). Most of them love talking about the cars with anyone who actually takes an interest in them. I have talked to Classic Car people who didn't have 2 nickels to rub together............. and ones who could buy my whole town.
This is a far cry from Classic Car show people, many of whom couldn't tell you the color of paint on their car.............. or if they could, would do it in a way so that you would feel like a roach to be looked down upon. These people remind me of those who have polo ponies. They don't own the horses because they love the sport, or the horses............ they own the horses for the prestige it brings. I have met many of these people also.
I guess the main difference, to me, is that the Classic Car person will bring his car down to Main Street with a bunch of others........... sit in a folding chair............. and drink whatever from a plastic cup. Classic Car Show people would never dream of lowering themselves, or their cars, to mingle with the likes of me.
BTW, I am a Classic Car person. We currently have 3. Used to have more. However, I am also a new car person. Go figure.

You pressed the supposed point that there's some clear difference between "Classic" folks and those who are not... you went there, not me.
I have wandered through most every kind of car community you could name. I can't remove some of the high end folks from the community that loves cars any more that I can accept that merely based on someone's lack of funds guarantees I'm with an interesting person to chat with. It was my impression YOU could and do make such a distinction.
I may be mistaken, but I read a bit of reverse snobbery in your post. To, perhaps, putting forth an opinion that unless one is broke, they aren't genuine and "real" fans.
If the new Z06 is out of someone's reach financially is not the issue. EVERYONE is conscious of price. Beyond that, it's all value judgement and based on a personal decision. A guy or gal that's going to buy or even can't hope to buy a particular car can still afford an opinion.
I'm somewhat perplexed with your putting forth a position that classic car folks, who are clearly capable of being less than fun to be around in some instances, have a monopoly on sense and "genuineness" about cars. In the same breath you can't resist putting in a cliche'd jab about "mid-life" crisis and "new" Corvette owners, as if there's some clear distintion we should all be aware of.
I think that perhaps you don't like the pricing for the C6 Z06 and have zero interest in those that can justify it. Good enough. It's a big parking lot and you can drive in to any open spot...
One thing though...You made no further inquiries or responses at all to anyone that has declared themselves as an intender for the car in question. I find that odd as you called them out and seemed to ask for a response for those that want to buy and are even more than likely to do so.
I suspect you don't like the price and want to stall any excitement aournd the car.
I'll point you to a fairly reasonable prediction .... let's even call it a guess if that suits you more.
There's a market for a 3100 pound, 505 hp car that handles like it's or rails and stops exceptionally well. Let's factor in a daily drivable car you can take across the town or country with confidence. Let's factor in a mid 11 car at 127 on street runflats... if drag racing is your end all and be all...
I'd even predict that a way fast 'vette makes a way much more possible for a fast and affordable performance coupe from GM in the future.
I get the impression from your posts that anyone who might see any value in such a Corvette at such a price as being out of the norm by virtue of whatever percentage of an internet Corvette site. Even worse, perhaps a person seeing this a exciting migh fall into the ranks of snobs that don't really love cars. Even more likely a poor suffering mid-life crisis victim.
Wow...why not go all the way and acuse a potential buyer as trying to make up for a stunted anatomy part through a willingness to part with their hard earned money for a C6 Z06?.
Here's something else I predict... I bet you and I would get along just fine even if we didn't agree on everything automotive. Reason being, we don't have to agree on it all to find common ground.

WHO GIVES!! All I know is Chevy is better then Ford and will remain that way.
While Chevy handmakes a carbon fiber super car with a handmade engine, they can keep cost down below 70k (despite what Ford nut-huggers said prior), and Ford recalls there 150k supercar.

Re: Ok, who's buying a 2006+ Z06???
The bottom line is this: The car is a bargain for the price, and anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant of what the car has to offer and is capable of.
To answer the original question, I plan to own one in the next 5 years or so unless GM comes out with something better between now and then.

Re: Ok, who's buying a 2006+ Z06???
I have been reading this thread with much interest. Here is my take. The 06 ZO6 will be a bargain for the performance it will bring. Is it a good bang for the buck, prolly not. An intercooled Maggy C6 will prolly beat it, and save the consumer money. The type of person who buys it, however, is prolly someone who wants the ultimate C6, and until the Blue Devil shows up, this car is it. Vettephiles are numerous, so I have no doubt this car will be a sales success. As a HALO vehicle, it will do much for the entire Corvette line. Whether we will buy it depends on our priorities, cash flow and individual needs. Lets not argue over semantics, we are all here because we love GM, RWD V8s, and without our beloved F bodies, the Corvette is it save the CTSv. I applaud GMs efforts, they have created a Viper and Ford GT killer for less money. They also have a car that could potentially challenge the Enzo and Porsche GT with the (hopefully) upcoming Blue Devil. (We will prolly see enthusiats adding intercooled Maggys soon)
Re: Ok, who's buying a 2006+ Z06???
A 2006 ZO6 will be comparable to a Viper and GT, a Blue Devil (rumored intercooled magnusson equipped ZO6) should kill both and challenge an Enzo and a Porsche GT.

That's my definition anyway.
I guess we'll have to wait and see!
