It's the cheapest vehicle with that level of performance. I could buy one, but I don't need to run 11.5 second quarters. I'm happy with 13.50 with the air on.

....and vice-versa.....it works both ways. I didn't really notice the "chest pumping" and "bashing" in the the other thread either, but that may just be me. There was actually some pretty good discussion going on, compared to other threads that pop up in here from time to time imo . Anyways, intentional or not, I think the tone (well err words I guess ) of your first post in this thread could easily be taken(and was by some) the wrong way...

Also, you will not have to live with the stigma that you only bought that new
Vette because you are having your midlife crissis. LOL
You have apparently not been to any of the high end classic car shows...

Re: Ok, who's buying a 2006+ Z06???

I certainly can't afford it at this time in my life, but I sure hope to at some point in the future. I just think for the money you can't go wrong. I am also another one who has considered, when that time comes wether or not I should go with my all time fav. 67 Corvette. I go back and forth on it but this new Z06 IMHO is a smokin' deal for the money and makes the decision clearer. I wasn't trying to bash either. Just don't get were ppl are coming from sometimes thats all. I mean the $150,000 Ford GT ( which I do think is pretty cool that they put it out), with a $100,000 market adjustment is ok (even with the issues its had) but a $65,000 price tag on the Z06 is too High? Corvette Z06 or Ford GT HMM! Let me see decisions, decisions???? No I don't have that kind of $$$, but does that make my opinion on the subject invalid? I can still understand perf./ per $$$ ...No? GT is what 50 AHEM SC'ed hp more at (with mark-up) $185,000 or so extra. No great bargain to me, but I have been wrong before. I thought Jackson was toast!

If I can convince the wife (not likely), I will dust off my home equity line of credit check book. It took me a year of constant prodding to okay the Magnum SRT8.

Would my words have been taken better if my login was 94CamaroZ28Gal???

Don't laugh.............. I don't think I'm that far off for some.

Most of my phrasing came from things other posters said on the other Z06 post. If it came off harsh, then I apologize.

For 1fastdog, I have been to many varied car shows, and do not like to associate with many of those people. There is a big difference between Classic Car people, and Classic Car show people. Most Classic car people did work on their pride and joy................ and didn't just hire someone to make their car a 100 point show car. Most Classic Car people will actually drive their car (gasp). Most of them love talking about the cars with anyone who actually takes an interest in them. I have talked to Classic Car people who didn't have 2 nickels to rub together............. and ones who could buy my whole town.

This is a far cry from Classic Car show people, many of whom couldn't tell you the color of paint on their car.............. or if they could, would do it in a way so that you would feel like a roach to be looked down upon. These people remind me of those who have polo ponies. They don't own the horses because they love the sport, or the horses............ they own the horses for the prestige it brings. I have met many of these people also.

I guess the main difference, to me, is that the Classic Car person will bring his car down to Main Street with a bunch of others........... sit in a folding chair............. and drink whatever from a plastic cup. Classic Car Show people would never dream of lowering themselves, or their cars, to mingle with the likes of me.

BTW, I am a Classic Car person. We currently have 3. Used to have more. However, I am also a new car person. Go figure.

Some are reading into my words way more than what is there.

BTW, the less than 50% was not those who WERE buying. It was those who would buy, or who THOUGHT it was a steal. Big difference. If less than 50% of the buying public thinks the car is a steal, and they are diehard Vette enthusiasts........... where does that leave the general populace???

PS, many on the Corvette forum think that after the initial sales rush, that sales will tank......... ala ZR1.......... due to the price. I prefer to take a wait and see attitude.

Gloria, I understand where you are coming from, but it is my belief some of your views are ungrounded. I think with time you tend to develop thicker skin and the patience wears out, you must have had enough experience with chevy/gm fans that you want to cut through the BS crap , I understand. I just don't really feel that those who think the car is priced well were bashing those who think the car is too expensive. I could be mistaken, perhaps I read things and took things differently than you have. As you said, your use of Lightning instead of Camaro could influence people's response to you, but it could also influence your perception of people's comments.

Either way... Moving on.

The polls you have quoted indicate people's opinion on the price of the car. I just fail to see the point you were making with this. What we establish is that many feel it's overpriced. That's fine. This is a long stretch, but ask how many people feel the quad-turbo W16 $1,000,000+ Bugatti (sp?) is too expensive. I bet a lot more than the measly 30 or 50% who voted on the Corvette forum. Or what about the VW Golf GTI R32, or whatever it was called. That thing was rediculous IMO. Yet thousands of people who bought them obviously did not think so. To them, it was a performance version of a car they love. And this Z06 is a "racecar" version of the Corvette, also a car that many love. To each their own.

As for their prediction that the Corvette sales will cool off after the first year... It might, or it might not, who knows? The only way to find out is to let time pass by.

You have to forgive me, but I just got the impression that YOU were bashing the ones who think it's priced fairly. Again, it could be due to my thicker skin and short patience because of the amount of unjust GM bashing I see here, I admit that.

At the end, it's just best to relax, watch a comedy (which I am going to do just about now ) and let things move on. After all, it's just a forum where people express their opinions, and really not worthwhile getting too worked up over it. I direct this to myself as much as to anyone else.

Obviously, I can't answer for everyone on that subject. I would like to think that a login name wouldn't have such a large effect. Afterall, there are several board members who have unique names, or readily display vehicles of other makes in thier sigs. As for myself, I read what is posted and try to take it at face value (if that is possible on an internet message board). The words that are posted grab my attention, not the names.

That discredits the phrase "More money than sense."

Have you ever heard it?

Who is gunna buy a 45k Mustang?
Who is gunna buy a Ferrari F430 spider?
Who is gunna buy a Hummer H1 Alpha
Hell, who here is gunna pony up the money and buy a Camaro when it finaly comes out?

WHO GIVES!! All I know is Chevy is better then Ford and will remain that way.
While Chevy handmakes a carbon fiber super car with a handmade engine, they can keep cost down below 70k (despite what Ford nut-huggers said prior), and Ford recalls there 150k supercar.
