Just drove an Charger R/T

My wife and I are looking for a new car to replace her Jetta GLX (her lease is ending). We have driven a few cars (G35 sedan, MB C230 sport, and new body 325i). She hates american cars so I have to trick her into going to an american car dealership.
The other day we were driving past a Dodge dealership and she saw the Charger and said she would consider it over any of the GM cars I had metioned/ looked at (CTS, GXP Grand Prix, La Crosse) even with the serious discounts. So tonight we drove it.

The Charger drives nice. It has a nice ride and handles well. It is very quiet and comfortable. The interior materials are very nice to look at and doesn't feel cheap like in my Impala. If you look at the details you can tell it is put together very well.
The Hemi is awsome. It has very good power and the trans is geared just right.

If I can get the right deal I am probably going to order one like this:

Silver Steel Metallic/Dark Slate
sunroof
sound group II
Road/Track performance group (this option package is a steal at $1600 it includes the comfort seating group, convenience group II, plus the nicer interior, better tires, sport suspension, upgraded intake/exhaust and 10 more hp)
Protection group
MSRP $33520

The dealership I went to isn't interested in negotiating so I'm gonna be shopping around the next couple weeks.

I still haven't seen one in person but I hate the pictures of them. Everyone seems to warm up to them in person so I guess I will just have to wait and see.

I kind of hated the car too. But after seeing it on the street and driving it tonight, I changed my mind.

Funny how that can work? You think the car is ugly then you drive it and like it, and all of a sudden the looks aren't so bad.

I am in the minority though anyway, for isntance, I have never liked the 300's and I see them all the time in various trim. My demographic is supposed to be lusting after them so I guess I just missed the memo. I just want to see a charger, especially an R/T so I can make a real valid opinion about it.

I will probably get around to it. After car shopping with the gf, I am really tired of going by car dealerships. So much hassle unless you go somewhere used in which case they just photocopy your license and throw you the keys. I drove a lot of different 2002-2004 used cars and quite a few new GM and Mazda cars. Maybe around August or so when I am back in Lawrence I will try out a new charger.

Yeah, the Charger looks alot more appealing than the Magnum. I'd love to get an SRT-8 when it comes out. All Black!!!!!

Look great in person. My dealer not only isnt negotiating, he has a $1000 market adjustment on all 3 on the lot.

I have to admit, I went into the dealership loving the car. After driving it, I love it even more! I need to see if I can find a way t drive the srt8 version when its available. This car in some form is definitely on my short list of next vehicles.

I like the car alot but I refuse to pay MSRP (especially when I know in a few months I'll probably be able to pick one up for invoice). I don't have much time to wait and if I don't find a deal in the next week I will move on.

BTW the salesman offered to sell me a Magnum RT for invoice. Around here they discount the **** out of them.

Re: Just drove an Charger R/T

So, what are your thoughts on the G35 sedan versus the RT?

Also, did you test drive a CTS?
Which model? What are your thoughts on that versus the G35 & RT?

Thanks,
Mike

I haven't driven the CTS but I drove the STS and of the 3 it is the nicest in every way. From what I am told the CTS and STS drive similar.

G35 VS RT

I would say their interiors are about on the same level. The RT has more power and they handle/brake about the same. You can tell the RT has German roots because it feels alot more solid than the G35. They are both great cars but the RT has the edge: HEMI . There is nothing like the sound of a V8 .
