First the bad. Look at the close-up pic of the gauge cluster. There's a speedo, tach, fuel level, and temp gauge. Where in the hell are the oil pressure and voltmeter gauges?
This is a performance car and therefore should have a full compliment of gauges. Get on this immediately Pontiac!!

Go to the image gallery and the last pic shows the extra gauges
General Motors' Vice Chairman Bob Lutz shows comedian Jay Leno the fit and finish of the new 2004 Pontiac GTO at a Pontiac dealer event in Los Angeles January 2, 2003. The 2004 Pontiac GTO was unveiled to the media at the LA Auto Show today.
What really impresses me about this car is the excellent execution of the details. In that respect it is so un-GM-like.
Notice the emblems...which look very up to date, yet pay direct homage to the original GTO. The detailing of the instrument panel specifically and the whole interior in general. I think Darth mentioned the slotted rotors, but even the calipers say "GTO".
Maybe alot of you would have liked a more expressive car, but you certainly have to give them kudos for doing a good job with what they had to work with.

I think it is very good looking car It is something I would definitly buy!! And for the people on here that say its a sport compact what did you want them to do "build a giant square box", I dont think there is a market for that. Take a look at our 4th gens they are a huge step forward from , lets say a '69 Z, but we all love them. It's just the way cars are made aerodynamics are here to stay. My vote Thumbs Up Pontiac!!!

Well give it some time. We've now gotten a detailed look at the exterior and even the interior. But once you can actually sit inside the driver's seat, see the car's characteristics and realize "yes, that is an LS1 rumble being controlled by my foot right now, from under the hood of this unassuming car", and then get cozy with the PMD Arrowheads and GTO badges all over, I think only then will it hit you as a true Pontiac, and not a Holden. It used to be all the pride among F-body people would lead to endless Chevy VS Pontiac debates; now it'll be Pontiac VS Holden,
and I'm sure with time, each brand will build distinction and nobody will confuse the two.

The offical pics definatly changed my mind about the GTO to a certain extent... now it doesnt look sooo much like a grand am and more like a holden which is a definate plus. What am I saying it looks pretty hot! But I dont know if its just a bad picture, but everyone was talking about how the GTO was supposed to comfortably seat 4 people, but the back seat doesnt appear to have much more room than that of a camaro.... I want to see how much legroom the backseat actually has before Im 100% sold... right now Im about 95%

This car looks awesome! I hope this metallic red is found on the production car as well. It's very close to the shade on my IROC-Z... although it kind of reminds me more of Cayenne Pepper Red from recent Camaros:

I agree with Z284ever about the details... very classy. The GTO trunk emblem is individual block letters, not a sticker. Despite being difficult to keep polished and clean, it's a tribute to classic 1960's muscle cars. I like the aero-covered fog lights, the colorful rear leather bucket seats, and the extensive control set found on the steering wheel. I like the wheels and the rear legroom, and the GTO fuel rail covers on the engine. I like!
Sunset Orange Met. 2002 Trans Am, DF Lid, FRA, K&N | DFGreen 98 GTP, Insulated SLP K&N, !U!Res, 3.5 Pulley, DHP_PCM, transcooler
| Brilliant Red Metallic 1990 IROC-Z Camaro, K&N, Camaro SS takeoff muffler | NBM 99 Formula, SOLD in Aug. 02.

Hey guys.
As an aussie who loves the monaro, and loves HSV's monaro even more, its been interesting to see how this car has turned out.
Personally, i reckon the rear spoiler just doesn't look right, it kinda ruins the lines of the car. And the new nose just doesn't sit right with me, but then again, this is meant to be a GTO..not a monaro.
A lot of you guys are saying there should be the bonnet scoops and dual exhausts, and i totally agree with you. When HSV was developing its version of the Monaro i really wanted to see some bonnet scoops on there to make it look extra aggressive, but the end product was great anyway.
All in all i think that this GTO needs more styling cues that remind us of previous GTO's. Thats all been said of course, but atm it just looks like a monaro with a rushed nosejob and rear wing.

I was worried too about the spoiler, because frankly I am not too wild about the too-small spoiler on the 2004 GTP. But when I saw the new GTO spoiler, I was thrilled - it seems just right to me. It reminds me of the spoiler on the 1970 GTO.
As for the front end, some have complained about it too closely resembling the Grand Prix. Two things...
1. It makes sense for it to look something like the Grand Prix. The GP is no longer available in coupe form and GP intenders wanting a coupe no have a good alternative.
2. The current GP is extremely popular and has been a 'home run' product for GM for a reason... it's a beautiful car!
