I'm sure you've heard me say it before (many times) and I will continute to say it. .....no matter what we do when we change something -- anything on a Camaro or a Firebird or a Corvette....some will love it and some will hate it.
Hey RED PLANET , I think I have the SOLUTION .

We sum up all the SS's Sold since 1967 and then sum up all the Z/28's sold and whichever sold the most wins! That would result in the least number of dissatisfied owners, and more importantly, Z/28 would be the Top Dawg

I'm not about to support/shoot down your opinion (as I have tried to do before ) but I have to say that your use of the words every person is quite an exaggeration here.

Yeah but look at your address bar

http://web.camaross.com/forums/

Haha, just giving you a hard time. Both the Z/28 and SS have a heritage with the camaro. Though the fact that the Z/28 is exclusive to the camaro just like the WS6 is exclusive to the bird gives it its own identity.
But right now I'd take either one as long as its a Camaro

Chicago, I guarantee, should be interesting!!!!! (leave the Ford at home!!!!)
Well, my camaro is in storage, so unless some one wants to lend me theirs I'll have the bring the ford, at least its not a M*****g.

Ok, this might be a late comment on this thread but, I paid 26 grand and change for a new 2001 Camaro SS that had a 33K sticker in April of 2001. It wasn't a demo. It was sold to me for "Floor plan" Thats 1k less than invoice. A Z28 with all the options would "floor plan" and invoice for about $1300ish less than a SS. So, if one knows hot to price haggle They could walk out with a SS for about that difference./ I think the better looks wheels brakes ect are worth that price difference.

Right now it makes more sense to have the SS at top becuase that is how people not "in the know" think of it. Talk to people with only a passing knowledge of the Camaro based on recent times and they'll tell you the same. Anybody who thinks of the Z28 or Z/28 as the top car already knows enough about the Camaro to go out and get top models despite what the name is.

Why does everyone care about what the top model is called anyway? I'm still hoping for something to be there to be named at all.

People are/may start looking for a wider variety of cars.. Hence why we have the Scions, Elements, SUV/station wagon crossovers coming out.. In the future, the market may look like a bunch of lower volume run cars, than just a few big high volume sellers..
People want be apart of the trends w/o the compromise. They want the look of a SUV but is only really a car, they want the look of a V8 monster, but is a docile street cruiser. It's always been that way...and the reason for the V6 Camaro. The V8 cars create the hype and the V6 drives the sales...one doesn't live without the other...until the car is expensive enough to be "exclusive" and can live off the high profit margins from each sale.

The trim levels aren't supposed to be different, they are supposed to be as close as possible...V6s are like V8s and buyers get the feel and look of a higher version w/o V8 negatives, while the V8s get the real deal. Same concept as the entry-level BMW or Jag.

A Z06-like Z28 emblem, pretty cool. Wouldn't mind seeing a car that held up to the emblem design.

Pretty much sums up my position on this. Z28 was the special car, SS was the common car. Regardless as to what GM vs enthusiasts are (or is it 'High Profit' vs 'Low Profit'), till the LT came out seems that was the pecking order between the 2.

Slightly different version of the same subject, if we are going to be stuck with just 2 engines, why not make 2 models of each?

The V6 would come in base and LT versions, with the "Luxury Touring" using the same formula as the '70s version (comfortable yet still sporty), while the base version would be the budget perfomer (V6 Mustangs out here seem to be brought by alot of guys on a budget, who then throw a blower and other performance pieces...many special pieces that will fit a 5.0 V8, also fits the 3.8 V6).

SS and Z28 would have the V8, Z28 being the Z06 of Camaros, while SS would continue pretty much the same without the hood scoop stolen from the Z28!

I hereby second that motion.

Can we have a show of hands for all those opposed..........
