NOT a Z/28 vs SS thread.

While we're on the topic of engines, how do we feel about a 5th gen Z/28 and SS sharing an engine?

Should they?

I voted they should have separate engines, or at least some sort of variation. I just dont see the point in paying $4000 more for a Z28 with a different hood, spoiler, wheels and SS badges. The 5th gen needs a bit more distinguishing factors between the Z and the SS, the biggest being the powerplant. Just make it a little different.

Same engine but different apperance, That way people can't b|tch about whether the SS or Z28 is the top model.

I voted for a specific engine because....well I'm sure everyone pretty much knows why I would say that.

But to be honest, I don't think I'd mind them both sharing an engine....as long as the packages were differentiated enough to make an SS an SS and a Z/28 a Z/28......if you all know what I mean.

Well, I fear posting in this thread.... but....

Isn't this exactly what the 4th Gen did? Or would everything be OK is the badges were swapped for the 4th Gen?

Share the exact same engine? No. Share a same displacement would be allright and probable, especailly if GM gives us a mid-level V8. (no way there would be 3 different displament V8's)

SS should get a 6.0 LS2, say 380-400hp range and theZ/28 should be limited car, say 7500/year and have what ever the Z06 Corvette gets. (preasumably this is the same engine the CTS V-Series would get?)

I sort of want to tip toe around the whole 4th gen thing. Things were done there ....for so many reasons....that had nothing to do with model lineage.

But if you look at say 350Z, they have three different models based on the same powertrain. Is that the best way to do it? I'm not sure.

But like I said, I'd probably prefer some specificity when it comes to engines.

I voted for different engine, but I'm opposite of 305fan. Z28 should be fast enough to whip up on the Stangs, but when the hell is GM going to make a Super Sport again? Not just some decor with a different suspension and stripes.

To me Z28 should be the "fastest" Camaro, but the SS should be the "Vette that can seat 4".

Make some limited edition ZL1s to keep Shelby in check.

Then why would anyone buy a Vette that can seat 2?

What it always has been... For the looks,it's fast, a cheaper supercar and the prestige of owning it.

I voted for different engines and also would like it to be DIFFERENT than the Z28.

How can this not turn into a Z/28 vs. SS thread?

Ok, if we assume that the engines are different, which one gets more horsepower?

See?

Ahh good question. I respect the Vette in all it's glory and goodness and such. I've even driven a few (54', 88' and 02' Z06) BUT I can't stand roadsters, so Camaro SS.

This started in 67:
Z28 Specs: http://www.fast-autos.net/chevrolet/...camaroz28.html
SS Specs: http://www.fast-autos.net/chevrolet/...letcamaro.html

More recent 01:
Z28 Specs: http://www.fast-autos.net/chevrolet/...camaroz28.html
SS Specs: http://www.fast-autos.net/chevrolet/...letcamaro.html

SS should get more horsepower. Course both should STOMP the Mustang.

See.....

I was trying not to go there.

PS

Shadow, we ALL know the specs.

It might as well say that 290 = 400.
