No need to worry about the Chinese invasion...not just yet...
Re: No need to worry about the Chinese invasion...not just yet...
Are you sure those pictures in the crash test are those of the Landwind? It looks like Isuzu Rodeo, and the picture in the article looks way different. The picture of the Landwind rolling down from the ship reminded me of Toyota.

Did you see the pictures I posted?
Its definetly the Landwind in the crash tests. Look at the body side cladding.

I love how the airbag goes off and then steering wheel comes out and decapitates you.

That video link posted by Gripenfelter is astounding (thanks!). It reminds me how much we take for granted nowadays in modern cars - such as the notion they will not crumple up like a ball of tin foil in a wreck (well most of them won't at least
)
Chinese manufacturing today is about where Japan was in the late 1950's (sadly I'm old enough to remember people referring to 'cheap, junky Japanese radios'). That is changing rapidly... much more rapidly than how long it took the Japanese to become world-class.

Re: No need to worry about the Chinese invasion...not just yet...
As funny as the video is, and I think it is pretty damn funny, I think we should not underestimate them at all. Sure, the car they just developed sucks, and any new car they develop is bound to suck, but when will the tide finally turn for them, and will GM be ready for yet another competitor? We have already seen this with the Japanese, and now the Koreans.
Re: No need to worry about the Chinese invasion...not just yet...
With an expected £10,000 price tag, the Landwind is designed to rival cars such as the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, both about £5,000 more expensive. The Chinese maker plans to sell at least 1,000 models before July 2006.

Since the Chinese steal patents from the rest of the auto industry it won't be long.
