Nissan Titan official re-rated HP figures for '07

http://www.nissanusa.com/titan/specifications_king.html

Old = 305HP/379tq
New = 317HP/385tq

I guess it was under rated a little.

According to the articles of the time (2004), and I quote...

"The Titan though is big enough. It is even larger than some of its American competitors and is a serious player with top-of-the-class horsepower, torque and performance. Nissan clearly did their homework, and have designed a truck for what their research suggested was what people most wanted in a truck.

Near the top of the list is power and torque, which the Titan has in abundance. This is no slacker of a pickup. Just a quick hint before we get into the details, the Titan is faster than the big motor versions of new Ford F-150, the Chevrolet Silverado and the Dodge 1500 HEMI.

The Titan's standard power is a 5.7-liter engine boasting 305 horsepower and a massive 379-ft.lbs. of torque. This is more than the 5.4-liter Triton engine in Ford's F-150, which has 300 hp and 365 ft.lbs. of torque. And more than the Chevy Silverado 6-liter with its 300 hp and 360 ft.lbs of torque.

Now you are probably saying that the Dodge HEMI has more horsepower, at 345, than the Titan, and you would be right. But the Dodge has slightly less torque, at 375 ft.lbs. And the Titan gets the power to the ground better.

The Titan comes standard with a five-speed automatic transmission. All the others, even the Dodge, use four-speed automatics. The five-speed brings to the table a low set of gears that allow the Titan to perform like few trucks. We saw 0 to 60 in 7.4 seconds at the dragstrip. This is 60's era muscle car territory"

Now, granted, this is a comparo of '04 models and some things have changed (at least slightly) but bottom line is, if housepower is all you care about then there are plenty of ways to get it but horsepower, while not unimportant, is a simplistic way to measure the worth (or performance) of a vehicle.

The "next" party has a cover charge of 367hp in a half-ton.

The MIDLEVEL 5.3 liter Chevrolet motor makes equivalent power to the top level motor available in the Titan, 315hp vs. 317hp.

And you're right, if it were the only measure, it wouldn't be quite so humiliating...

But the 5.3 liter does so with half as many valves, a lighter weight, smaller size physical size and better fuel economy.

Even beat 'em in specific output...

So when do these parties start? As soon as GM releases their new product? Why not when Dodge released their Hemi? Almost every time a new truck is released it one-ups the others in a variety of ways, often times including power, so saying the new minimum is xxx amount of power and declaring that as soon as GM meets that minimum, is awfully convenient, don't ya think?

By the way, speaking of being late to the party, GM's northstar sure is.

Come on now.. you're smart enough to realize that's not applicable...:blah:

The V-series cars carry a very hefty premium in price to the point where you would have to compared to the S/RS/M/AMG/etc series to make any sense of it.

I'm talking in terms of the majority of lux car sales, where you'll find the plain ol' 290-320hp Northstar amongst the majority of the rest of the market at the 370-400hp range (without getting into the sport models)

Yup, but it has seen improvements over the years, just like the Lexus UZ V8 has been around since 1990 and even today is just an many times over massaged and enhanced version of the original.

I wouldn't be worried about the Northstar's power. It's down about 30HP on average now, but it will be right back up to the top of the pack even with just DI, which would give it ~370HP. That doesn't take into account any other improvements we'll see either. I don't know if it's going to be called "Northstar" any more, but it's going to grow in size to 4.8L most likely (a 4.8L Northstar w/DI would make ~385HP), and will make it's first appearance in the '09 MY.

That wouldn't be class leading but would be on par for sure... even though it'd be 2 years late.

DI adds ~15% more power. 320 x 1.15 = ~370 and if you do 320 x (4.8/4.6) x 1.15 = ~385.

Similarly, the 3.6 V6 w/DI is supposed to make 310+HP. 270HP x 1.15 = 310HP.

Also, keep in mind the "UV8" or whatever the new DOHC V8 will be called isn't just an enlarged Northstar with DI. It has more features as well, so I'm expecting 400+HP. We shall see, though.
