New Mustang site is up
its getting the carryover "BULLITT" engine, which is the 3V 4.6 with some high rpm upgrades. V6 is a carryover too for 2010. In 2011, the powertrains are going to be different, just search anywhere online if you want info on that. But with the lighter weight of the mustang over the camaro, it should currently be about neck and neck. My 6.0 GTO with cold air/exhaust would hang right next to a new stang, so Im not worried about trying to keep up, especially next year...You guys know that army tanks have 10,000 hp, I can still outrun them in my 300hp truck though
oh i forgot to mention that I had heard that there is no more hard touch plastic on the inside like the old one. It is all higher quality materials, audi quality fit and finish, and the aerodynamic changes theyve made to the body have supposedly eliminated all windnoise and gave it a bump in mileage too.
Plus you can fit more thru the trunklid than a half gallon of milk

I like it, a lot. I especially like the weight advantage. Autoblog says a 400-500 lb advantage over a comparable Camaro; those numbers sound high to me.
Does the V6 Mustang really start at 3350? 'Cause a V6 Camaro is listed at 3750 lbs...
I was hoping the new engines would be out at launch, but it sounds like that's in 2011. Oh well. This means that in a few years I should be able to choose between a 422 hp but porky Camaro convertible (if GM is around
) or a ?? hp Mustang convertible (if Ford is around
).
I will say that I'm not crazy about the new wheel design, at least in the pics of the dark blue coupe. The ones shown on the convertibles look better.
The optional 19s look sexy though, damn.
Still not 100% sure of the protruding rear end, though as I stare at the picture while typing this is is already coming together for me. Was this done to increase crashworthiness or something? Or just a styling tweak?
Color me quite happy with the styling overall, but bummed that we have to wait longer to see the extra power.

EDIT: Looking at a current Mustang next to the new one, I think I prefer the front end styling of the current car to the new one. I don't dislike the new one, I just think the current one looks a little cleaner, less busy. I also prefer the current hood vs. the new one with the "power dome." Again, not a dislike, just a slight preference.
Also, looking at the front 3/4 shot of the Mustang compared to the same angle on the Camaro, there are definitely some things I like about each. The Camaro may look a bit better in the front / front fender area. The Mustang's more rounded, taller greenhouse gets the nod vs. the Camaro's squashed, gun-slit glass area (which I'm still mad about). For me though, another Camaro weakness in terms of styling is the area behind the door windows. On the Mustang, the fastback look takes the rear rake down basically along the same plane as the front glass. On the Camaro, the rear rake takes a more agressive downward and inward turn, such that is sort of disappears in the 3/4 view.

(Current Mustang, but greenhouse shape is the same):

I have to say, though, that I would expect an LS2 GTO to be quicker than a current Mustang GT (unless the Stang is modded).
My likes are
-The primary guages, not only in font, but the white face that is configurable in color, and the little silver bullets at the base of the needles which spiffs up the look by a suprising margin. I still give the ancilliary gauges to the Camaro.
-The door panels have been cleaned up and made somewhat interesting by tying in the panel design to the seat design.
-Center console is better, but nothing to write home about. I guess this is an area in the Camaro where I have an issue because I feel it has a dated look to it, and the shifter design is just odd. Still love the console gauges on the 'maro though.
-Seats look good
Dislikes are pretty much only the center instrument stack on the NAV cars, can't really put my finger on why though.
As far as the outside goes, I like the sheetmetal changes. The blacked out rockers and rear diffuser visually shrink the outside, which is good. The tail lights themselves I'll give a marginal improvement to, but what I really like about the back now is that it has a slope to it whereas the old car had just this vertical drop to it which just chopped the rear and contributed to the overall blocky feel. This new body looks a bit more chiseled. I like that they added a body crease along the top line of where the side vent is. I didn't like the current car where you had this vent coming up and it just disappeared into the fender and that was it. Now you get the completed vent look like the 60's cars, nice. The wheels look good. The front I'm not sure about. I THINK I like it, but will have to see that one. I does look a little pinched in some shots, but I can see where they were trying to get a '68-'69 look to it. Don't care for the big flat black surround on the grille though.
The engine doesn't really bother me at all, though I wish it got better mpg's and had the 6 speeds. I was a proponent for the entry level V8 for a long time, and would have bought a 4.8 or 5.3 Camaro in a heartbeat. I can appreciate the V6 that's in the car, but 8 is where it's at for me in this kind of car. Wifey is getting a 6, and 300hp or not, I'm a little down about that. It's not the hp, it's the sound that I like the most. In my current situation trafficwise, I can never wring my vette out anyway, so even 300hp is more than I can use. Our SS gets out of its own way nicely, and has plenty of power for what I can use.
The pricing is kind of scary for the Camaro. Here is the PREMIUM GT coming in almost a grand less than the base Camaro SS. You can expect the base GT to knock a few grand off that, so we're looking at a good margin between the 2 pricewise for equal models, I'd say at least 10% of the purchase price. That's going to hurt I'm afraid.
I gotta agree on that. I've spent a good deal of time in my moms LS2 GTO and a Hertz Shelby, and the GTO would have destroyed the Shelby had the 2 lined up next to each other, even w/ the Shelby's gears.

BTW, that Impala SS you have is a secret that few know exists, great sound and very quick!
I especially like what Ford has done to the front end. It looks leaner, meaner, sportier and more agressive. The bulkiness that the previous Mustang had up front, in pictures anyway, appears gone.
I like the Camaro exterior a lot - more then the Mustang. Having said that, the Camaro interior (mostly the binnacle shape & HVAC/radio controls) is just brutal. Bad to the point of distraction.
That and the porky weight of the Camaro are the two biggest reasons I will not be an owner of one. In comparison, the Mustang's interior is clean and attractive, if a bit "safe" aesthetically. But that is more than enough to give it the win over the Camaro's bizarre interior.

Looks better, imo....

Interior is a vast improvement. I'd say it's the best Mustang interior ever.
New exterior will likely grow on me, but as of right now I like the current one better. However, I've been a fan of the 2005 up since the beginning.
