The new Impala. Bigger impact than Camaro.

How about comparing VE (to be released in July) to the latest Toyota design.

It is certainly valid to compare the GTO to the new Toyota. Whether the GTO was a 10 year old design or not, it IS still available. So a 2007 Camry can be compared to a GTO that is only 1 or 2 years old in regards to style.
Now if I were comparing a 1996 model vehicle that has since been redesigned to a new 2007. THAT would be 'comparing a 10 year old design to a recently released design'. The GTO wasn't released here 10 years ago, so to most Americans, the GTO IS a new(er) design. Though it still looks like a 1999 Grand Prix. (And the Grand Prix looked better imo.)
But, please, point me to a VE pic. I'm not a fan of Toyota at all, so will only give my actual opinion as to which I find more attractive.
Re: The new Impala. Bigger impact than Camaro.
I'll happily compare the VE to the Toyota if you can point me to a pic of the VE.

(ugh)
Compare to...

Sorry. Toyota makes some "nice" cars. High-quality, sewing-machine-like smoothness. But they are still today (yes even with the new Camry) struggling and flailing around when it comes to making a styling and performance statement like is found in the C6 Z06. BTW... where's Toyota's RWD V8 performance coupe? Again, they are lost and adrift in such a segment. They haven't a clue how to build a car that's the same caliber of performance value as the GTO, or makes the same statement on the street as it rumbles past

A skill Holden and GM learned decades ago however...

BigDarknFast -- I think you missed the fact that the Holden fans including yourself are the ones who dragged Holden's styling into this thread. If the best you can say is that it's better than an old Camry ....

(here's the ugh-mobile again for your convenience

See, that is the problem Toyota has. They HAVE NO cool history to fall back on. There ARE NO cool old Toyota sedans invoking nostalgia, that they can leverage to make a striking new design for the public. Chevy though... well they have cars like this

Re: The new Impala. Bigger impact than Camaro.
Never liked the 96 Impala's styling -- too 86 Taurus + Droopy for me.

Was always a fan of the early 70s Impalers:

And even fond of some "classic" Toyotas, like the 70s Celica Supra. (It's no Camaro, but the car is half hood!)

And the eighties... well same deal IMHO

Re: The new Impala. Bigger impact than Camaro.
I'm more than willing to agree that the Camry was pretty dull up until the new one.
I never cared for the grandma styling of the early 90's Impala, but it was much better than the Camry of the same year.
Despite how I may come across, I've never owned anything but Chevy and will never own a Toyota (or Honda or Nissan). So I'm not trying to defend the Camry at all. Just saying that the new Camry is an attractive vehicle (as is the new Honda Civic Si). Until recently, Japanese cars were very dull to me.

Lets hope that the Impala gets a lot more flare then that. I wouldnt mind that being a Pontiac, as I think there design needs to go to that roundish look to match Solstice and G6, I hope this "60's inspired" Impala has some flare to it.

That would make a great Pontiac Grand Prix. It's just the right size, leave the huge boats to Buick.
