Why is it that 4th gens weigh so much more then 3rd gens anywho? What with an aluminum LS1 and plastic body panels (those are lighter then metal, I'd imagine, huh?), you'd think they'd be a fair bit lighter.

Not all 4th gens are as fat, just the TAs and verts My vert came in at 3780 with me in it, and a BONE DRY tank. Didnt think I was going to make it to the pump I'm ~200#, and had no spare (only weight reduction). I about crapped when his TA came in at more than my vert.....especially with his aluminum block. But he was carrying a 1/2 tank more than I.

GTO should be considerably quicker.

Though the 01 Cobra weighs +/- 150# less at about 3450 vs GTO's 3600 (the 3,600 pound 2003 Cobra has a blower, intercooler, and an iron engine block), the GTO has at least 30 more horsepower, and the Cobra's 317 ft/lbs of torque should be easy work of GTO's 360 to 400 ft/lbs.

Seems to me like this thing should move pretty quick, whether it gets the same ol' LS1 as the F-bods or one with revised cam specs. Gearing (rear-end and tranny) would seem to be the biggest question right now.

Regardless, I don't think my Impy has anything to worry about Those folks on the street dumb enough to mistake it for a GP might be surprised, and without a doubt it'll outrun almost any other $35K "boutique" car (TT, Z4, etc.).

Im sure you'll agree that when the test's come out for the GTO it will be very interesting.Til the time comes we can debate this til we are red in the face,Im not saying your wrong in any way.Im not saying Im wrong at the same time.I wonder how bad the GTO hops off the line?Im sure it wont be as much as a 01 Cobra and no less then a Vette.

HORSEPOWER wins sales,
TORQUE wins races!
Those of us who have ~320 RWHP but only ~280 RW lb/ft might have a slight bit of disagreement with you on that statement.
