Re: New Civic SI

Side profile, looks like Cobalt. Crooks! I'd never buy it, with that H on the grille, and that no-torque makin' lump ( no surprise there), under the hood! But that's just me!

Maybe engineering wise . In the looks department ...the last gen looked so much better . It was actually a good looking car with clean simple lines . I thought , given the excellent current gen accord interior that they would make a new standard for compact interiors . They did the exact opposite . The materials may look of high quality but the design WAY to busy . It looks like different people with different opinions designed different parts of the dash . JMO This is pretty damn bad to say this , but I think I would rather look at a Saturn Ions ugly interior everyday over that goofy set up .

Not bad. A definite improvement over the last gen though. Not a fan of the dash layout or the digital speedo. Nav is a nice addition though. Not too many cars in that price range have it.

Re: New Civic SI

At least the SI model is offered in something other than a hatchback I guess.

People critisize the import brands for looking too conservative, then they critisize them for looking to 'odd'. Make up your mind or just admit that you will critisize their looks regardless of what they come up with. The interior on that new civic looks FAR better than the Cobalt IMO.
An "unriced" Civic was one of the (very) few Japanese cars that I thought has decent styling for it's market... I think that's out the window with this new one.

As far as people criticizing imports for looking too conservative, then criticizing them for looking "odd".... sounds like what people have done to Pontiac, only in reverse... first they said they looked too "Plasticy and cladded"... now they look too bland.

The torque curves on Honda's four-cylinder engines are generally pretty flat. They fall a bit as the revs climb, then they jump up a bunch at the VTEC engagement point (usually 6k rpm), and then they stay pretty flat again.

I like torque too much to get another Honda four-cylinder.

Like I've said more times then I can count now. When I'm on import boards I very commonly defend domestics as they don't get deserved representation most of the time. It's simply the matter of speaking up for the voice that has no representation among a majority of die-hard stubborn-headed GM fans.

And FWIW, if you wanted to call it that, I'd be jacking off, which isn't gay. Circle jerking is about as homo as it gets.

Yeah, really appreciated that Its your term anyway...

This "stubborn-headed" GM fan knows a decent car when he sees it. I'm not anti-Japanese (I could actually see myself in either a Scion tC, or an Eclipse)...I'm anti-ugly. That car is hideous.

Period.

Re: New Civic SI

I like the exterior minus the spoiler. But its does also look like the stylist must love Saturns. The profile of the car looks very similar to the 1999 vintage Saturn SC coupes. The front of the new civic looks very similar to the 2004 vintage ION sedan.

The interior, while looking high quality (Cobalt SS looks high quality in pics too), it does look mismashed. As someone said, looks like different people designed different sections in a bubble. All the dash vents are different sizes and shapes. The speedometer looks likt it might be blocked visually by the steering wheel. The nav system looks like an afterthought, not integrated into the styling. At least it does have NAV as an option, Cobalt misses on this one. The ebrake handle looks inconveniently in the way of the shifter. I assume this is a cost cutting measure going from right hand drive to left hand drive. Honda was to cheap to move the e-brake to the other side of the shifter like they should. I like the unique futuristic look, it just looks like they goofed on some of the fine details.

Re: New Civic SI

The front of it actually looks good to me. The back, on the other hand, looks terrible. I honestly can't think of one car that has a downwards sloping rear that looks good: previous Altima, Ion, current Accord 4dr, previous Accord coupe, 80's Sevilles. They all look terrible from the back, why do designers insist on doing that? And the interior must be the work of kindergardeners. The steering wheel looks like it came off a bumper car, the e-brake is in a horrible position and about to impale the driver, and whats with the "back to the 80's" digital speedo? The seats look great though.

How could they do this on their mainstream car? My mom is scared of the interior, she says the e-brake looks dangerous in an accident and that the whole thing looks like a spaceship. And this is from somebody who owns a new Accord.

I predict a drop in sales personally, if not I lose all faith in the American public. Short of Ion and Kia that looks like the ugliest entry in the compact market. I hope the sedan interior is different. Outside of stupid kids, I can't see anybody buying that thing... well except Threxx of course .

Re: New Civic SI

It looks like a funky little spaceship. I wouldn't buy one, but I do find it interesting. Can't decide if I like it or not.
