Well Honda released the car officially. I hadnt seen much posted on it here so thought Id share.

Intresting.... 200hp, LSD, 8000 rpms... It also has a really nice interior and optional GPS. It ought to get 30+mpg on the highway too.. or so you'd think. If Honda keeps this car cheap, around $20,000 it could be a serious competitor in the market. I'm not sold on the cars front end though. Maybe it will grow on me.

Re: New Civic SI

It won't get those kind of mpg's if you spin it to 8000rpm very often.
It's not bad, but I think there is better stuff in the market right now. At least its not a hatchback any more, I have little love of econobox hatchbacks.

That's not a bad looking little car. It's certainly worlds ahead of the current Si, aka "Odyssey Coupe" IMO.

Nice enough for what it is. If I was in the market for that type of car, the G6 or Cobalt would be my choices. But I openly admit my pro-domestic bias

I'm not a fan of the looks, in that segment you need Forced Induction. They should have made it a Turbo.

The HP numbers are very impressive, but I'm not a big fan of that front end either.

Re: New Civic SI

My last car was a '93 Civic EX. At 126hp, the numbers were pretty impressive, given the 1.6L displacement. More than 1hp per cubic inch, naturally aspirated! The LS6, LS2, and LS7 are the first big motors in a long time to achieve that. The downfall, however, is in the torque. Honda's high-revving little motors have no torque, and it shows! This new Civic has only 139lb-ft of torque, and you can be sure that the peak occurs above 5000 rpm.

My '93 was fun to drive -- there was no doubt about that. This new model, I'm sure, is faster on every count, and handles better, too. It's still a Honda four-banger, however, and it still has no torque. I like torque, and I'm glad to have it back!

I'm sure it'll sell like crazy, and I'm sure I'll get revved at by several of them in the next few years, and I'm sure I'll blow them all away.

One poster on VTEC.com: "If it's fast it will sell, and if it hits low 15's I'm buying!!!"

I think it looks great. It would make a good sporty daily driver that won't bore you in 5 minutes

Re: New Civic SI

I figure if a car's going to be a fwd econobox, it may as well be utilitarian BOX (i.e., 3- or 5-door hatchback/wagon). No interest at all in a fwd 2-door coupe. Which is why we just bought the wife a Mazda3 5-door.
Perfectly good "chick" car

Otherwise, I like the funky looks. But it just ain't makin' it as a "coupe", for me..

Re: New Civic SI

Looks very nice all around. I think the interior is a nice improvement for sure as is the exterior. The nav system doesn't appear to be on part with the rest of the Honda lineup - look more like something out of GM - I've never been impressed by their nav units. But I suppose it's hard to tell. It just looks too tack-on and buttoned-up.

I'd prefer this over the Cobalt for sure if I were looking for practical and somewhat sporty transportation, but if I were looking for pure performance, the S/C Cobalt SS will most likely outperform it by a few tenths in the 1/4-mile stock for stock and will be far more easily modded since it's just a pulley away.
