The "new" DTS just goes to show how weak and uncompetitive GM's products are becoming.
They arn't letting it wither away, that is why it is getting the 2006 upgrades. If they wanted to have it wither away they would have left it alone for the next 2 year.

I think giving a car that only has 2 years left this kind of upgrade (all new interior, new features, updated exterior) is a step in the right direction for GM.

I'd like to direct you to the search button. As you know, the board looks down upon questions answered previously. I believe this has been covered, in depth, a multitude of times.

Re: New Cadillac DTS

redzed, since the most direct (maybe only) true competitor for the DTS is the Lincoln Town Car, please explain to me again how it is uncompetitive...

Please.

Again, I am simply blown away by the fact that you seem to think the F-body and B-body were great GM achievements (not that I don't love them too), while anything they've made since they just gets automatically dismissed by you. It really does seem that either you are a middle/high school kid trolling, or you are just WAY too obsessed and bitter over the cancellation of two cars you liked.

*sigh*

What....The current DeVille has been out since 2000 which makes it 5 years old. The past 5 years have been very successful for the DeVille. The '06 is a stop gag until RWD in '08. I think they did a pretty good job with the styling update to the nose and tail.

Re: New Cadillac DTS

Sooo let me get this straight. When GM doesn't lead a segment in sales it's because the product is bad. When GM does lead a segment in sales, the product is bad and still uncompetitive.

Nice logic.

A program manager buddy of mine at Lear says they have their own night vision system in development. He didn't say for which car or company, but I found it odd knowing how bad it failed in the Cadillacs. Perhaps they've found a way to do it cheaper.

My Grandfather bought a 2000 with night vision. I think it was really awesome. I thought the whole interior was pretty dang nice myself, but obviously it lacked a little on the power side. Other than that. Glad to see a little facelift for it.

1. Learn to count...2000...2001....2002......2003......2004... ..2005.....2006. This is going to be the 7th model year of the pretty much carried-over 2000 DeVille.

2. On the powertrain front, this 2006 DTS is pretty much the same a 1997 DeVille. Isn't 10 years an eternity when it comes to luxury cars? Ten years ago we still had the second generation Lexus LS400. By the time this creepy ole' Caddy is replaced, Lexus will be selling the 4th generation LS - the Lexus LS500.

3. There should have been a RWD DeVille replacement here already - not in calender year 2008 as you claim. (Personally, I don't see GM keeping that sort of timescale.)

Proving that, yes, you can argue with success.

Please.
I'd argue that the Chrysler 300C is entirely competitive with the DeVille on every level except for trunk space. The Chrysler is a far more modern car, not to mention far quick and far cheaper.

The Lincoln Town Car has degenerated into a pseudo-taxicab for the streets of New York. The only thing a black Town Car competes with is a yellow Crown Vic.

The problem with this 2006 DTS is that it's really no improvement on the 2000 car. Come to think of it, beyond reduced shoulder room (is that a positive?) and offering the (now cancelled!) night vision system, the new-for 2000 DeVille wasn't a heck-of-a-lot better than the Northstar equipped DeVilles from the mid-1990s.

My "dismissal" for the DTS isn't automatic. It comes as a result of GM's underinvestment and neglect of the vehicle line.
