Re: New Cadillac DTS

I'll admit it does look a little better than what I expected after seeing the limo... but I'll still stand by my remark that this is the first disappointing application of the Art & Science theme...

I like.

Interior looks very nice.

Too bad they killed night vision. I thought the idea was simply awesome, guess a lot of other folks didn't.

I agree on the Interior... it looks pretty nice.

I also agree on the Night Vision.... I think it fell into a "cool, buttoo expensive" catagory... even on a luxury car. Kind of like the Four Wheel Steering on Silverado and Sierra... a cool idea with great benefits, but pretty costly. 4WS was $4000 originally I believe... now it's a $2k option. Still pretty pricey, even at 50% of the original retail.

If I were looking at a full size truck, 4WS would be very attractive to me for parking in cramped areas and such, but the price puts up a pretty big stop sign. Z28x and I had a discussion about 4WS a little bit ago... I think we both felt it would become pretty attractive ataround $800-$1000, but can that price be achieved and still be profitable or even as a break even option for GM? Doesn't look like it.

Anyway... back to the DTS...

I wouldn't really say that it even is an application of the Art & Science theme, it is still the old DeVille just with a new interior and Art & Science styling queues on the outside.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is just a stop gap solution until the true Art & Science RWD DTS comes out in 2008.

Ya, you are totally correct... by "application" I guess I mean "applying the theme as a freshening to an existing car"... and most definately, that's why it looks the worst of the bunch to me....

When the DTS is redone as a whole, I expect it to look fantastic, like the rest of the A&S Cadillacs.

Can someone explain how a facelifted car in its 7th YEAR is supposed to be competitive?

Sure.

It's the number one selling car in it's class.

Pretty simple, really.

The carried-over-FWD DTS will probably see its 10th birthday. You're more likely to see a $100k super-ultra-mega-luxury Cadillac than a direct RWD replacement for the DTS.

I could see a combination of the 3.5" stretched STS that is sold in China and a $75K V8 version of the superlux Caddy covering that ground, Leaving the V12/V16 super-lux sedan above that.

So what you're saying is that a top seller with huge profit margins should be allowed to wither away? GM seems to be very intent on killing the DTS's traditional segment. I suppose the logic is that its more profitable to sell 500 units/year of a $100,000 car than to sell 100,000 units/year of a $50,000 car.

The "new" DTS just goes to show how weak and uncompetitive GM's products are becoming.

How is it "withering away", when they just reskinned the car?!

GM seems to be very intent on killing the DTS's traditional segment.
Again, THEY JUST RESKINNED IT!

Ya, Cadillac has 0 $100k cars right now. If they add one, FANTASTIC! I think there is room for both if they choose to do so.

The "new" DTS just goes to show how weak and uncompetitive GM's products are becoming.

Are you a total idiot? How is having THE BEST SELLING CAR IN IT'S CLASS showing that GM is "weak and uncompetitve"?!
