New Cadillac DTS

My "dismissal" for the DTS isn't automatic. It comes as a result of GM's underinvestment and neglect of the vehicle line.
What part of "freshening" don't you understand?
It's a styling update.
Not an all-new car.

The Lincoln Town Car has degenerated into a pseudo-taxicab for the streets of New York. The only thing a black Town Car competes with is a yellow Crown Vic.

The DTS is intended to keep the older Caddy buyers buying. Lexus, BMW, Infinity, etc. don't really offer the equivalent of the big luxo-barge (though the DTS is not exactly a land barge in the handling department nowadays). Those wanting the more "European" rear drive set-up can pick between the CTS or STS or SRX, or even the XLR.

Redzed-
It's 7 years old... what year is the Camaro you supposedly own? Must not forget the 2002 Fbody is based on architecture first done in 1982. Most of the chassis design is over 20 years old.
So IF you actually own an Fbody, it is a royal POS... and must more of a POS then the DTS.
DTS's are quieter and ride better then the 300C and Magnum. I've been in both. The 300C is cross shopped a lot because of it's presence, but mose people that are looking also to the DTS are looking more at BMW's and Mercedes vehicles. That's where the true comparison of market segment takes place. Luxury/Interior is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I havent liked an Import interior since 1999. I find every single one hideous. Feel though the 300C is pretty good. I just didnt like the switches at all. They didnt feel right.

Re: New Cadillac DTS
Redzed, have you ever sat in a 1999 Deville and then a 2000? Or how about jumping from a 1996 model to the 2000? The interior is a major leap forward from both of the previous 1990's Devilles. Its a night and day difference between the layout, look, and feel of quality seprerating the two.
I am wondering why isn't the Northstar offered with 300hp in both of these cars? I believe that a 1993 Allante was availbe with 300hp. And in this day and age, a 4 speed auto is unnacceptable in a car costing this much. I'm not impressed from a mechanical/engineering standpoint, since nothing has changed with the drivetrain since 1994.
I also do not like the styling. It seems to me that they just slapped a "Art&Science" front end without changing the side profile. What does the back look like? I couldn't find a picture of the rear or interior on that website.
I'm sure that the refinement, interior, ride, space, and luxury goodies will be hard to beat for under $50,000 though.

Re: New Cadillac DTS
The DTS Northstar is slightly detuned for use of regular unleaded gasoline. I would have thought the "freshened" DTS would have recieved the newer 320hp version of the Northstar.

The powertrain has been pretty much carry over. Since the Northstar powertrain is so good (good power, good MPG) nothing really needed to be changed until an all new car comes in '08. But many improvements have been made in styling, fit and finish, and over all quality over the past 10 years.
After all these years the Town Car is still about 40hp short of the DeVille.

2. On the powertrain front, this 2006 DTS is pretty much the same a 1997 DeVille. Isn't 10 years an eternity when it comes to luxury cars? Ten years ago we still had the second generation Lexus LS400. By the time this creepy ole' Caddy is replaced, Lexus will be selling the 4th generation LS - the Lexus LS500.
3. There should have been a RWD DeVille replacement here already - not in calender year 2008 as you claim. (Personally, I don't see GM keeping that sort of timescale.)

don't need to go fast. All they care about is gas mileage.
