Sky lights are nice, so is the interior.

For some reason I just don't have much respect for FWD lux cars no matter who makes them

GM needs to start cranking out those 6 speed automatics. The new Lucerne and DTS should have one ASAP. Everything new from Toyota seems to have a 6 speed.

What gets me is that DTS is front drive. It competes in a class of car where everyone else is either RWD or AWD or has a choice of either.

FWIW, yeah, essentially everything Toyota will be 6-speed within the next year or two. Everything Lexus V8 will be 8-speed.

DTS is just a stop gap product, when it is replaced in a few years it will be RWD. In a few years everyone will be using 6 speed automatics (except maybe the Aveos and Echos of the world)

Im sure its a neat car but the exterior styling isnt even close for me (neither is the right rear door color on the car in the first link).

Its a shame too because its probably a neat car! Needs some torque though...

Huh? You saying the paint doesn't match? That's a shadow... look, you can see the beginnings of it before it even moves to the next door.

Lexus uses a computer controlled 'arm' with a sensetive optical sensor at the end of it that looks over each and every car they make to check for even color and minimal orange peel on all paint jobs. That alone makes it tough for any visibly uneven coloring to be present in any modern lexus vehicle... but for their show car to unveil to the entire world? You bet your *** that paint isn't visibly off color.

Is that kind of the same thing when you said "Every Toyota coming down the assembly line has its doors open and shut 500 times and windows rolled up and down 500 times to ensure proper build, and if one fails the line stops and the cause is found and fixed"?

I didn't say that at all, actually.

And I've seen the way this sensor works in a video tour of their Tahara plant which is regarded as the most automated vehicle assembly plant in the world IIRC. I have no idea where that video was found though.

Woah was I off, it was actually "100,000-250,000 times".

That's far different from testing every car on the line. This paint sensor looks over ever car on the line.

Oh im sure its the same color.

At least I ASSume its all the same shade.

Its just, with my eyes, not visibly the same. Behind that rear door is fine. Its just the door. If its a lighting or shadow then technically the door is either misaligned or... the bodywork stinks.

Re: The new 2007 Lexus ES350

I still think of Camry when I see the front end... the profile reminds me of the new Lucerne.
My first impression as well, tho looking closer I can see the differences. Something still looks out of place in the rear tho.?? as in visually.
Still, nice, and inovative, clean looking inside and out.
