Talking funniest auto styling quote of the week.. from Lexus!

We don't want to make small, medium and large sausages like BMW or Audi
-Dezi Nagaya, general manager of the Lexus brand planning department in Tokyo, on the new Lexus styling design and common themes between models.

Lexus is finally going to firm up their own styling designs.... aka, less copying off German cars...

Notice he mentions BMW & Audi, but not Mercedes Benz which the big Lexus has been a stylistic carbon copy since it's last 2 redesigns.

I just don't understand why Lexus is so popular. Their designs are uninspiring and unimaginative and the interiors are really borderline-luxury IMO. Maybe this new design direction will make the kind of individual statement they've sorely been lacking up until now.

Nope, they'd rather have three or four different UGLY cars. Makes stealing from home-market and domestic-market Toyotas a lot easier.

What do you want to bet that Cadillac, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi are all hoping the guy who did the SC430 gets promoted?

The SC430 has been a pretty big hit, I see tons of them. Plus when it first came out, even non-car people I knew were saying "Have you seen that new Lexus? It looks nice!"

I haven't heard that about any other cars lately.

I must admit, new 7-series does look like fat "kielbasa".

In this shot, LS430 looks just like previous generation Mercedez. Check it out:

Their leather seats are built so well you could swear they're hand made and stitched (maybe they are?). When I went to International Auto Show here in Toronto, I peaked into SC430 - I couldn't help but notice how much better the interior is than the rest of the car . That interior makes you appreciate that you're driving $86,000 car (CDN funds).

The only interior I was not impressed with in Lexus was that of IS 300 - and that is the dashboard design only. The plastics are still very good quality.
