Reno brings up a good point on international sales of Mustang (and by extension Camaro). If these cars were compact enough and properly equipped, why couldn't they sell well overseas.

The 4th gen Camaro was a complete failure in the Euro market. Find some British mag road tests of it, and they are not shy about telling why.

Does anyone remember the 3rd gen Z28E. It was an '82 Z/28 decked out for Europe. It had some cosmetic tweaks (which looked pretty decent) and NO smog gear....
Great post. I personally think American ponycars have a huge following in Europe and overseas in general. I know some of the highest-end collectors that come to the US and buy the $250k Cobras, the $100K Shelby Mustangs, and the $30k '65 verts are foreigners... Arabs, Japanese (*** car execs no-less!), Germans, etc. Even the "common" ponycars are revered by many in Germany, France, New Zealand , Australia, Mexico, and a bazillion others. Here's also some links to Camaro clubs in Germany, France, and Australia. These cars are indeed global due to their mystique and American Heritage.

I think that if the carmakers would just make that little special effort to tailor the cars for these people (like the turbo diesel idea) they would sell VERY well abroad. Except for Iraq, Libya, and a few others for obvious reasons, what nation in this world hasn't longed for the American Icons... Blue Jeans, Coke/Pepsi, McDonalds(?), and our CARS?

Great topic that rarely gets talked about! Charlie, Reno... very insightful stuff there guys!

Sorry guys, but if Ford puts out one like the silver one, I'm gone.

I'll always have an old Chevy or Poncho to roll in, but I'd have to get me that.

I had to comment on the rear window visability.
This is the BACK window for heavens sake. That "issue" is nonexistant.

The car has a roofline to a 65 "NOT" a 67.

Is there really that much difference in the 65 & 67 rooflines?

Now, your 67 shot isn't a profile shot at all...

The roofline (in profile anyway) is very similar...

Just because the pic I used of a 67 Fastback was of one in need of a resto doesn't change the shape of it's roofline...

The 65-66 fastback roofline stopped about a foot short of the rear of the car, leaving a small horizontal trunk. The 67-68 was a true fastback and went all the way back. The cars look more different in person than in photos.

BTW, if there's one thing I hope they bring back, it's the rear seats that fold flat and are perfectly concealed, making it look like a 2-seater. That was always cool as hell.

Actually, if you want to know why I put THAT picture of a 67 fastback in, it's bacause I needed a PROFILE shot of the 67 fastback.

I did an image search on www.google.com , and that was the picture that best showed the PROFILE of the 67.

What the hell does the conditionof the car matter?!?!?!?

So to YOUR stupid response.
