It's funny how people there are comparing it to a 350Z. Some people...anyway I like it better than the current Mustang but geez...I just see nothing but '67 fastback from every angle, which qualifies it as retro to me....

Where do you see fox body Mustang in the '05?

I see this, this, and this, but I don't see any of this.

Please Chevy, I love the first gens but don't make a carbon of this as a 5th Gen!

Notice the Slats behind the rear windows and the center grille Here

Also notice the recessed fog lamps in your own 87 GT picture. The roofline is similar to the current mustangs as well. They also both have the same number of wheels and doors.

You just have to look really hard...

I'd have to be on acid to see anything but late 60's stang. There is nothing from the fox body or current style. The only design cues that can be related to any of these generations, are the same design cues that were taken from the 60's cars in the first place.

Sorry WERM I'm unconvinced. Most cars have their grills in the center, don't they? Recessed fog lights? Yeah, ok. That's one "cue" I guess. I think it's hard to deny that you're really reaching if you see fox body in the '05 concept.

I really agree with Wilson here. I only see the 67 in the new Mustang. Thats like saying the 05 is like my dad's 1913 Caddy because they both have four wheels.

I think WERM was yanking your chains a little...
I detected a smirking smilie after his comment about the number of wheels and doors.

I personally won't contest that the car favors the late '60s models in flavor... that was much of the intent of the design team.
But if you guys think the '05 is a "carbon-copy" of a '67 fastback, you need lasik performed ASAP.
If the two cars were parked side-by-side, I really don't think you could call them "identical".

Let's be real, if a car like the '05 was offered to the public back in '67, it would have scared everyone to death! It looks infinitely more "futuristic", with larger wheels and fender openings, the sharp creases, edgy lines, a GLASS ROOF for Pete's sake, big glowy taillamps, a bulging hood w/ scoops instead of a "pointy" one with chorme edge trim, I won't even go to the interior...

So the old car had a 3-bar taillamp and the new one does too... the lamps themselves look NOTHING alike except for "3 vertical bars". One came with 14" steel wheels, the other 18" alloys. One has a steel dash painted the same as the exterior color, the other has plastic, plastic, and plastic (with some aluminum and plastic thrown in for good measure). So they both have side scoops behind the doors... on has a 9" slit, the other has a 22" gash. So they both have hood scoops... one has induction scoops over 2/3 back from the front, the other has intake scoops at the leading edge. So they both have fastback designs with a "chopped-flat" rear panel... so does a '74 Datsun 210 and an '88 Honda CRX... I guess that makes them identical twins too?

Again, I don't dispute the resemblances, but I think that is all they are - resemblances. Geez, I'm a 6'-1" white dude, @195lbs, with short dark hair, born in the '60's. Would that help you identify me in a crowd? How hard is it to find another one of those around? Does that make me and the next guy with these traits "twins"? We would both be white males, with 2 legs, 2 arms, 1 head, 1 mouth, ten fingers, etc. but are we carbon copies of each other... I hope not! Would we even be mistaken for brothers - very doubtful. This is how I feel about the '05.

One last thing to point out here...
We are all entitled to our opinions - thank goodness. I respect the opinions of those who see this car as "retro". And just like in this forum, there are going to be many in the world who share the same view. BUT, I honestly think that MORE PEOPLE will find the car attractive and celebrate the car's "sticking to it's past", than will dislike or resent the similarities to the early cars. I think Ford has done enough research to verify this is going to work, prior to spending the first penny on it's development. Besides, even guys like RP have said in this very forum, that no matter what the design offering is, there will be lovers - AND - haters of it, no matter what. We'll just have to watch the sales and see...
