Also OnStar is standard across the board, but we knew that was coming...

Great move with the warranty, IMO... though I think it's time for something like this to be across the board at GM...

Very good move

If they want to be considered a lux brand they need to match the competition.

Throughout the late 80s until about 10 to 15 years ago, everyone was offering 5 years or 50,000 miles as a gimmick to prove that US cars were as good as Japanese. When US sales started rebound, everyone started dropping them, and went back to the 3/36K plan.

This Buick plan, while great, isn't really anything new.

Was it 5/50? My '89 RS had a 3/50 warranty, I do remember that. So WHY, if Buicks come off the same assembly line as other models, can't ALL GM divisions have this warranty?????????????

I realize Buick is more "upscale" than Chevy, but if I want a warranty I can get it from a Hyundai. This 3/36 thing is an insult compared to what Hyundai offers. How much do you want to bet the 10/100 and 5/60 warranties are one of the core reasons for Hyundai's turnaround?

Now, imagine how much rebate $$$ GM could have saved by doing the same 5/60 and 10/100 programs. What a shame...

I think that's an option... unless you have a Hyundai.

Seriously, I feel these types of warranties should be standard issue.

BTW, Jason, you may be right regarding GM. But Chrysler and Ford waere going longer. Chrysler especially. One way they kept pushing all those K-cars.

GM can't afford to pay for all the matience. Maybe for Cadillac, but not for all their cars. Not to mention it would p!ss dealers off because they know they couldn't overbill GM like they do their regular customers.

The way I remember Chrysler at least was that you got the option of either a 3/36 b2b OR a 7/70 powertrain. Granted, I was around 9 years old the last time that was offered, so I may be incorrect But I swear I remember those old ads for the Spirit and such claiming 7/70 or 3/36, because I remember my dad saying once "It will be a cold day in hell before I bought a Chrysler product without a bumper to bumper warranty!"

How pathetic is it that I remember crap like this?

GM needs to use big warranties across the board. Nothing else would speak as strongly to their commitment to quality.
