Cars GM should consider
Cars GM should consider
I got one. How about a Seville STS hybrid?
Think about it. V8 power, flat torque curve and the sweet status of a Cadillac. I talked to a guy @ work with an Escape hybrid and he said he was getting 29 mpg in the city!
Wow!
I want my next car to be a Cadillac, and I want it in V8. But I'm worried about how pricey gas will be by then. I'm sure a Hybrid will ease people's minds.
So there's the Hybrid Escape, and a new Lexus RX300 Hybrid that's supposed to sell like crazy!
It would make sense to make a Hybrid, V8 Cadillac.

Re: Cars GM should consider
The only reason to buy a hybrid would be to augment an already powerful engine. The gas savings is vapor. You will spend more on the car becuase its a hybrid then you save in gas. Now if you look at it to boost a 300hp engine to 400hp for a launch, thats worth while to me.
Re: Cars GM should consider
GM should build a car with snazzy things that never go out of style. Like tail fins, and bubble domes, and **** carpetting. And there should be buttons for the horn everywhere, you can never find the horn when you're mad. And they should all play 'la cucaracha'. There should be a separate sound-proof bubble dome for the kids, with optional restraints and muzzles. The car should be powerful like a gorilla, yet soft and yielding like a Nerf ball. They should sell it for around $80,000 and call it....... the Homer
Re: Cars GM should consider
A heavier, more complicated STS that puts several hundred pounds of heavy metal waste in the ground every few years to save a pound or two of carbon emissions over a 150k lifespan, coupled with a sticker price increase that can't be offset by the gas savings in less than a couple of decades?
How about a NO on that one.

Re: Cars GM should consider
I think GM should make better use of their HF 3.6 v6's, and technology such as turbocharging and AWD. They also need to look at their transmission offerings. They're a bit slow in getting cars equipped with 5spd and 6spd auto's to the market, and they've starved certain performance cars like the Impala/Malibu SS's of manual tranny's.
Re: Cars GM should consider
Considering the type of people that usually buy Cadillacs I always wondered why the even needed a V8, they are rarely going to go over 40mph. Steel front and rear bumper would be a better improvement.

Re: Cars GM should consider
How about a Euro style hatchback with a sport model and a diesel. 3 and 5 door. I'm talking a sporty car and something with some real style, not some mini wagon or SUV.
They should also do a hybrid. Not because it makes financial sense, but because it makes marketing and engineering sense. A) Some people want them B) Its a good image C) they get experience making the cars so IF they do go big time, GM will at least know how to build a half decent one.
They should do an inexpensive 4-seat convertible.

Re: Cars GM should consider
They should Build, not consider, everything they can get that Badass V8 into, Camaro, Firebird, Chevelle, El Camino, NOMAD, etc. As someone else said, they made V8 RWD for years it can't be that hard! Nomad is a sore spot for me, as they practically handed that one right over to DCx! I'm not even gonna go into the Camaro debacle or whatever you wanna call it!
They handed that over too, I mean 2 NOMAD concepts none for production, real Bonehead move IMO! I can recall showing these when they were out, and ppl would say, when is that coming out, I'd have to say it's not
HMM... I could have swore someone else had a cool wagon type vehicle with a "sporty front end" many years ago at the Waldorf!
The Magnum has proven there is a market for this type of vehicle, they need to start putting this stuff out already! The hybrid tech. IMHO doesn't seem to be so great, or much of an issue anymore, to me it seems they need to get the message out that the V8's are now sippin' the fuel, rather than guzzling it! The best damn powertrain in the business doesn't amount to a hill of beans, if it ain't out there. Hopefully they are getting back on track... I beleive they are, and the coming year should be a good one!
Oh, centric right, on great way to sum up the hybrid thing! No, doubt it would have taken me at least 10 pages!
On that note, let me stop right here!

Re: Cars GM should consider
IMHO, GM knows more than anyone else how to DO hybrid. I don't think anyone, has spent more money on developing it! I just think GM has to do just that, develope the S-out of something before they put it out! Actually I know there is a pretty big market for it, and they should and will Do it. However I don't think they should waste it on the **itboxes, like the others, though they are kinda forcing GM's hand a little with them! I won't say its something I get excited about, but I understand there are those who do!
Great article in autoweek about it BTW! Avalanche is a really great vehicle with tons of utility, really smart! A smaller Trailblazer sized version would sell well too, I know a few who love it, but say its too big for em'! Utility that's the thing about us Americans we need it! That's why the Magnum does so well, also why tiny little deathtraps **itboxes will never go over big here. I mean are we really comfy in a tiny vehicle? I sure as hell ain't! Ever time I get into a lil' POS, I feel like I'm gonna be killed by an SUV piloted by a soccer mom on her cell, or a big *** 18 wheeler. We want to haul some ***, and maybe a little stuff too, OK maybe alot of stuff!

No they wouldnt. It does not provide as much utility as some people think or that the owners claim. Its ugly. Nothing about it screams intimidation or sporty like the magnum. Even a sheet metal redesign cant fix a car whose primary reason for existance was to give moms something smaller then SUV's to drive.
