BTW, I'm still curious to understand why 4th Gen SS Guys refuse to admit that the modern Camaro SS is actually a Z/28 with a "SS" style trim package added on.


And for the 9,999,999,999th time... RedPlanet DID NOT say that! What he said was (paraphrasing here) GM was going in the "SS" direction and he felt it was more important to fight for "CAMARO" right now, rather than argue about what the performance version would be called.

I just want CAMARO back.

Uprated performance Monte Carlo? "SS"
Uprated performance truck? "SS"
Pseudo-performance truck? "SSr"
Cutting edge show car? "SS"

Nobody EVER said they were world-beaters at the track, but they ARE the expression of performance for their various lines.

Remember when they used to call them "Z24" and "Z26"?

If the "Z" moniker slapped in front of a number had the marketing panache required to pull a few cars lines along with it, THEY'D STILL BE USING IT.

But they aren't.

WHY? Is everyone in Chevrolet marketing an idiot? Didn't they go out and ask their buyers what they wanted? Didn't they go out and ask folks who wouldn't even consider a Chevrolet what they wanted? Is it some horrible anti-Z conspiracy???

Maybe, JUST MAYBE it's because the MARKET AND THE DEALERS AND GM AND THE VAST MAJORITY OF CHEVROLET BUYERS FIND "SS" TO BE A BETTER DESIGNATION.

If I were Red I'd NEVER tell someone who wanted to come here and learn about these cars to come to this particular forum, the Z28/SS stuff might not be the only reason (I'm pretty harsh on GM at times, and prone to the occasional flame war), BUT IT'S GOTTA BE ONE OF THEM.
