Mustang vs Camaro vs GTO vs Corvette poll.

If Ford releases a 500-550 hp Mustang....should Camaro or GTO compete with it....(at a cost of $45-$50K),...or should this be left up to the Z06 to compete with?

The Camaro should not compete with a 500 hp Mustang. Thats what the Vette is for and the Vette will easily handle. The Camaro is the poor man's Vette. It was a little ridiculous that the SS's price was inflated to $35k+ in the Camaro's final years. Putting the F-body's price up at $45-50k would not be acceptable. Camaro is not a supercar, its an affordable, stylish car with a OHV V8 making good power for a good price. Camaro isnt Chevy's halo car, the Corvette is.

No! No! No!

I just posted about this in the super long thread. I refuse to pay a lot for a Camaro. Are you all insane?
I’m just going to repost what I said in the other thread……

We are all talking about huge horsepower #s for the next Camaro and that great and all. I hope it comes back with as much hp as possible and embarrasses just about every car at any stop light.

But personally I don’t want to pay a ton for the next Camaro. I know many of you have read for the past few months that all I want is a 5th Gen RWD V8 Convertible Camaro w/ a 6 speed, but do I want to pay 40 grand for it? Hell no!

Of course it needs to perform. But it needs to do it at a “Chevy” price. guionM said Chevrolet's focus is on value. We need to remember that. If the Cobra can only be taken down by the Vette, so be it. I want an affordable Camaro. I don’t want a 600hp “Super Camaro” for $80,000. What happened to the guys in here that wanted an affordable car. Man I just hope I can get one when I graduate College. If not it’s the Solstice for me.

If GM can find a way to share platforms and motors effectively and give the Camaro a 500 hp motor and not raise the price ridiculously, then well more power to them. That would be great. But I refuse to accept an expensive Camaro. An expensive Camaro is called a Corvette.

I'd like to see the base Vette have the same 1/4mi time as a 500HP Cobra, but the Vette will only need/have less HP (425?) since it is lighter.

400HP Camaro = $30K
400HP GTO = $35K
425HP Vette = $45K
500HP GTO = $45K
500HP Z06 = $55K
625HP ZL1 = $80K

I assume the 500HP Cobra will be about $40K-45K.

Is it just me? But, you know..... I've always hated that description of the Camaro. It always sounded to me like the Camaro was the "scraps" that we downtrodden got out of the garbage dumpster because we couldn't get the real thing (Corvette).

I'm not poor...(can't say I'm rich either)..... but I've mostly had a greater affinity for Camaro over Corvette for my whole life.

I always liked: Camaro, America's sport legend.

Since the release of the 03 Cobra, the Cobra has stepped to a level beyond the performance I'd expect from a stock V8 Camaro.

Let the Cobra chase the Vette, just make me faster than the Mustang GT's.

Considering that the LS-6 isn't really any more expensive to produce than the LS-1, a 400hp Camaro shouldn't cost a heck of a lot more than a 300-350hp car. If we're talking '03 Cobra levels of performance, there's no reason why GM couldn't build a Camaro that's cheaper and just as fast.

The 500hp+ league is getting a bit silly though.

Produce no, but will GM charge more for it? Oh yeah they will. I don’t see them just giving away the LS6. I doubt the next generation of LS motors will be any different. We would have seen an LS6 in the Camaro if things were different but there not.
Yeah there’s no reason except GM wants more $$$ in their pockets.

No..

If they wanted to make a super limited edition $60,000 Camaro, fine, I guess.. But I think the money would be better spent on improving the overall platform and funding factory support roadracing teams.

And I bet you, if a Camaro came out with compariable performance of a Cobra, it will cost about the same as a Cobra, regardless. Its back to the idea of accepted percieved cost of products.... aka your $1 14 oz bottle of water...

I dont think the Camaro should compete with. The Camaro should be an affordable 400 hp car.

However, I think that there should be a limited production Camaro that should eat one for lunch.

I'm with stars on this one....You bet they'd charge more for it!

Look at the other GM examples out there. Silverado SS comes to mind. The only reason to do it is bragging rights....

In the end though, if they want to make it, go ahead. But I'm not paying that much for a Camaro!

Whats wrong with this formula?

Base Camaro-Mild performance, mostly for the look

Z28 Camaro- the touring camaro

SS Camaro-loaded 1/4 mile performer. Destroys Mustang GT's and takes out Mach 1's.

ZL1 Camaro-The Cobra Killer. Limited production.

The Vette has one that will eat ferraris and such. Why cant the Camaro have one to go after the Cobra?
