I like my Mustang because it's what I think of when I think American car. It's RWD, V8, sporty, and has a classic look about it. The interior could be better, but no one buys a pony car for comfort, if you ask me.

Sounds like we need a Camaro like this..... but without all the excuses.

Darth, nice jab............. with the winky to make us think your just yanking our chain.
The point being that the Mustang's being perfect, not perfect, acceptable, or not acceptable is in the eyes of the beholder. A Ponycar/musclecar is always a compromise........... and always will be. Whether the compromises are acceptable to the buyers, or potential buyers, is what determines if it a success or not. In other words, it is about getting the formula right. This is something that Ford seems to have a rather easy time with (talking about Mustang only).
Thus, I guess there will always be "excuses" made to justify the purchase of these compromised vehicles.

I know we've talked about the importance of the Camaro name here before, but this has really got me wondering: if the Mustang was called a Probe or something else, would it sell as well? I'll bet it wouldn't be close. I understand there's lots of intangibles associated with buying a car, but when the arrangement of letters moulded into the rear bumper is a top priority, something's wrong. Good for Ford for taking advantage of this.

Other than that, splendid car. Can't wait to see the Cobra.

When people line up to buy cars like that despite its many drawbacks, it's going to be difficult to use logic and numbers to convince them otherwise. That's going to make for a very uphill battle for the Camaro, just like the 1990s when the f-bodies were clearly superior cars to the Mustang but still sold less.
Anyhow, makes you wonder what kind of competitor GM could have come up with using all the money it dumped into various misadventures in the late 1990s, like Aztek, Saab, Oldsmobile, etc. Hindsight is 20-20 I suppose.

The secret formula is right there embedded in the sheetmetal.
People, normal people, not CamaroZ28.com people, want an upright stance easy use, easy to get in and out of appliance that looks awesome and has some pep. That right there is the V6 Mustang for the last 25 years even though that formula nearly killed it when everyone was going sports car crazy in the '80s.
For under $20K, there's nothing even close to the V6 stang. And when that new 3.5 Duratec comes out, the spread'll get even worse.

Seems to me it was Mustangs and Buicks that were the hot street cars back then. Mustangs cause they were cheap and light, Buicks cause they had that hair dried one gallon bent six that could be boosted to hell.
Anywhosit, a nice untouched fox body (espcially a trunk) fetches a good price these days.

Nope. Guess you missed out on the whole Stang-into-a-Probe episode, c.1989. The stang was an appliance back then too, and Ford figured people wouldn't care what pair of wheels drove the car.
