Re: Motor Trend Reports on Blue Devil

I've been thinking about "Blue Devil" and I think it won't make production. Unless Ford or Dodge turns is up a notch on the GT/Viper. I believe that when the C6 Z06 comes out next year, its performance will be on a level of the top supercars of the world if it gets 500hp+. And GM beancounters will decide that the 'Blue Devil" is not needed that the Z06 is fast enough.

Of course I hope it doesn't happen this way, but you know GM.
What do you all think?

who knows, maybe GM will set the tone this time? This will force a CF pannled Viper to hit the streets.

I think Lutz has the pull to tell the beancounters to sit down and shut up. He knows product, they don't. Prior to Lutz I dont' think it would have even been discussed. Just having him at GM creates an environment positive for cars like the Blue Devil.

Re: Motor Trend Reports on Blue Devil

Corvette Quarterly stated a trap speed of 155mph.

Given the weight and tire differences between the Z06 and the C6 Z51, it looks like the hp numbers are right in line with each other.

I wouldn't be surprised to see dead stock Z51's crack off high, high 11's in stock form with a first-class driver and good conditions.

It seems that a pretty good amount of "normal" folks (i.e. NOT Evan Smith) are getting dead-stock 11's out of Z06's now.

Trap speed of 155 mph? For what car? That car has got to run 8's.

I'm thinking he meant 115, unless he's talking about something else entirely.

Hmmm....makes the idea I've been tossing around a bit more appealing though....sell the Cobra, get a 2002/2003 Z06....things that make you go hmmm.
I think you have seen through the fog Bob. The trick with achieveing good stright mile an hour with either a Z06 or the C6 is knowing where redline is, what the particular gearbox ratio you are in is, and shifting accordingly. Timing is everything.

If you were to go the Z06 route, it wouldn't hurt my feeling in the least!
If you do go that direction and would like some suggestions on hardcore powertrain parts, ect., I have some pretty good info and resources you could consider

Re: Motor Trend Reports on Blue Devil

LOL. We'll see. Just for the heck of it, I dropped in on the local Chevy dealer this afternoon (RK in Va Beach). I have had past dealing with them via helping a young sailor keep from getting shafted. That was back in 96, and I was hoping some things had changed. They had not.

There was a Z06 on the used lot, so I stopped to take a quick peek. As luck (bad luck) would have it, a salesman was right there. After determining that it was a 2003, I had to ask him 5 or 6 times to get the "cash price" and mileage. After he first told me that new ones were going for $70k, he finally went inside to get the price. He came out and told me it had 17k miles, was a "manager's car" (aren't they all?), and the price was in the high 40's. Mmmmkay. I told him I was going to go take a look at the new ones. He made sure to point out that he sold new ones too. Ya.

So I zipped over to the new car side (RK is a big dealership), got out, and took a look. They had two 04 Z06s - one black and one QS. Sticker was $52k-ish (as they should be). But low and behold, guess what? There was "Loan Adjustment Value" of $10k on each. OUCH! Same thing with the SSR's sitting right beside them.

A sales lady corralled me as I was starting to walk back to my truck. I could barely understand her, but after I said something about the "markup", she first tried to tell me that it was negotiable, then said it wasn't a markup at all, but rather just a loan value.

Needless to say, I left. I am smart enough (it doesn't take much) to know that I could get a much better deal elsewhere, but it was interesting none-the-less to see what the local dealer was doing.

Sad.

Sad indeed. Why do stealerships have to be such idiots? "Loan Adjustment Value" What in the hell is that?

Here's what you do...Go back knowing exactly what you have to spend and knowing exactly what the car is worth. Tell the salesperson that you want to hear either of 2 words...yes or no. Walk when you don't hear what you want to.

Good luck and hope to see you in a Z06...

Re: Motor Trend Reports on Blue Devil

Ya, I've bought enough cars not be taken in by that mess. LOL.

I'd love to get one, but the earliest it would be is at the end of the NMRA season. It looks like I won't be able to race in 2005 or 2006, so I'm going to think hard about selling the 99 Cobra F/S car.

We'll see.

Re: Motor Trend Reports on Blue Devil

Well now its Car & Drivers turn at the C6 Z51, straight out of the Sept. issue.

0 to 60 4.3
1/4 mile 12.7 @ 113mph
Top Speed 186mph.......mfr's claim
70 - 0 mph 166 ft.
300 ft. skid pad 0.98g

Nearly identical test numbers in acceleration between Motor Trend and Car & Driver...... Will Road & Track be slower like many here predict?
