Tonight coming home from work on Telegraph in Dearborn I had the chance to race a new Z06 and 05 mustang GT. I raced the z06 twice from a roll. Both times I had an early lead that quickly ended once we shifted to third. By the time we shut down he was a car length on me and it did not look like it would have lessened. We shifted at roughly the same time. I started in second from around 25-30. Cocky guy too...wish I had more than just exhaust on my 03 cobra. Five minutes later I saw a red mustang GT. Looks good. My girlfriend does not like the looks however and absolutely hates the front lights. We started from a roll at around 25mph and it stayed pretty even right off the bat. As I shifted to third, I began to walk him but we both had to shut down. The streets were busy and the cops were out. Cool guy though and very lucky to be driving that car for the weekend. Every mustang owner was chasing him down. It is a pretty fast car, and it really did hang with me initially from a roll.

A video proves a lot more than that post does. Where the hell do you just see '05 Mustang GT's prancing around? Much less street racing? They haven't even hit dealer lots yet. Just sounds like a desperation attempt by a huge Mustang fan to give some more credit to the new generations. If this is true, and if it did hang with him right off the roll, theres no way its stock.

His girlfriend has the right idea. I could care if this sucker runs 9's, it is still butt-fugly. Running 14.2 just adds to the fun.
I like how when a Ford guy posts about his encounter with an 05 Mustang GT, its truth, but when someone brings a video tape of a GT running 14.2, its BS and should not be belived! FORD CAN NEVER FAIL!!

I see a couple of 05 mustangs a week around here, c6 vettes too. I raced an 05 down woodward last week and it didn't quite seem mach 1 quick, but i think it was a little faster than an 04 gt. I'm pretty sure just about all of us could make it run a little better then a 14.20. I can't see it hanging with a new cobra though. I walked away from the 05 from a roll and a light.

Some guys are just more vocal about it than others but I see their point...yeah if you don't believe a video then what makes a post from a rather anonymous internet street racer any more credible? 
Here's an idea, let them come to showrooms, let people start buying them and then let's see some consistant times!

But....if this guy said that he completely obliterated the '05, and it was such a piece of crap, that it started shedding body panels, and burned to the ground.........THEN you'd be swearing to everyone that this was gospel truth.

As for the roll thing, it has already been mentioned. A well driven 5spd Mach 1 will do fine in initially hanging well with the Cobra. Keyword being “initially” because the gap gets larger and larger as the speeds increase.

. I think both sides are guilty of this. One is more inclined to believe the slower time, while the other is more inclined to believe the faster time.

Actual road tests should be showing up in car mags starting next month. I'll wait for their numbers before passing judgment, even though the current word is they are about Mach 1 & LS1 quick.
