What a sham! I bet they didn't even test drive it because it would have ended up with a blown tranny that isn't covered under warranty.

This reminds me of Consumer Reports favoring Toyota without even checking on the cars.

No suprise. The car is impressive! Lets be honest. It's very fast, and gives you a lot of bang for the buck. Remember when the Z06 was the "bang for the buck" King? The GTR definately gives the Z06 a run for its money in more than one category.

We haven't even seen too many modified GTR's yet and I'm sure they won't fail to impress. Its not perfect, but what car is?

I imagine a lot of people here would have liked to see the ZR1 as Car of the Year, but I honestly think the GTR showcases a lot more innovation, uniqueness, and excitement. I can't think of any ground breaking cars in any other price segment.

I'm still bitter/angry that MT picked the BMW as the King of horsepower (Vs. Corvette Z06 and Porsche Boxter) several years ago because it had a nice back seat.

Cancelled subscription after that one. Wish I would have sooner.

And, in other news, Motor Trend changed the trophy for the COTY to prominently feature a glass transmission, with legal disclaimers on the proper use of the trophy covering its backside in 2-point type.

Yep. Transmission goes "bang!" and then you're out twenty thousand bucks.

MT Criteria is that the car has to be a game changer in its segment. Well a 20K tranny replacement is Revolutionary.

Why doesn't anyone realize that Motor Trend's Car of the Year award is not a recommendation?

COTY is about significance, plain and simple. They pretend to take a bunch of other stuff into account (like "excellence" and "design"), but whatever new car stirs up the most fuss each year always wins, and the GT-R definitely deserves that recognition.

Now, if the GT-R manages to make Car and Driver's 10Best list, then I'll be surprised.

Just like any other manufacturer's fan base, an award such as car of the year is heralded as a sign of excellence regardless of what it means. You know Nissan fans will be rubbing this one in everyone's face for some time to come.

Funny, I don't recall anyone complaining last year when the Cadillac was chosen.

To my knowledge, the Cadillac wasn't guilty of transmissions costing 1/4 of the purchase price of the car grenading when the car was driven in the same manner needed to achieve its published acceleration times.
