Chicago is better. I've been to both, and Chicago was nicer, IMO. Not that Detroit isnt a good show, but I enjoyed Chicago a lot more.

Yeah but isn't the best part about Detroit that they always unvail new models and kick-*** concepts?

They dont unveil most of the new concepts and such until the last 2 days of the Detroit Auto show. Since Chicago is the next stop, everything is there right from the beginning. As least thats the way it was last year. That, and there were less people at Chicago when we went. I acutally got some good pics, unlike the ones I've always taken in Detroit.

The problem with the Detroit show in the last few years has been that the show has simply outgrown Cobo Hall. They keep talking about expanding but I have no idea where they could expand floorspace to. They could have over 800,000 people next year which will make it seem even more crowded.

Do they actually let the general public watch the unvailing of the new models?

The actual unveilings happen at a pre-show charity gala and are filmed for the public. You can see a lot of them at a local TV station's web site, wxyz:

I go every year to the show. I have found the crowds aren't so bad if you go early in the day. Every car looks more interesting in person.

Thanks You've made my day. Chicago is closer, and fits my schedule a whole lot better. I now have something to look forward to for my post year-end crunch break.
