yes it will, GM needs to sell it for under $30K even if it means selling it at a loss for a few years until battery prices come down.

That's gotta be an interesting HALT/HAST (highly-accelerated life test/highly-accelerated stress test) profile. It's no so straightforward to develop such a routine for relatively well-know mechanical and electrical technologies, so I imagine that GM is in a bit of uncharted territory. If nothing else, at least they're learning something

If I were an engineer on this program, I'd be excited and scared at the same time.

Either that, or the Volt is going to get delayed even more.
Well, it seems that Lutz and Co. are doing their best to keep the program from getting delayed by excuses and reluctant attitudes. Still, if the Volt program attempts to defy physics, there will be trouble.

My good friend works in the GM battery labs - I have good faith in his work. Many times Ive been hanging out with him on the weekend and the test system would have an issue and page him causing him to have to go into work. They run 24/7.

hmm, maybe a Volt is the car I should be looking at. My commute has recently dropped from ~45 miles round trip to ~4. Hopefully I'll be getting the condo I put in an offer for, so it might be a 10-12 mile round trip commute. I could get almost a week on 1 charge!!!

Well seeing as how they currently sell a $15,000 completely electric car in Canada right now and they are coming out with a new version with more power and greater range next year that will still be under $30,000...

$48,000 for the Volt is ridiculous and it will not sell.

And does this Canadian car meet or exceed the US safety rules, does it have A/C, radio, power steering/brakes?

I've been thinking about getting a bike, except most of that distance is very a busy road with no sidewalks and very small dirt shoulders. Walking would just take too long.
