Sounds good. If it's not too expensive, I may pick up a Volt as a DD. It will look good next to my 5th gen.

"After extensive aerodynamic testing of the Volt, the vehicle now has a coefficient of drag that is 30% lower than the original concept," said Ed Welburn, GM vice president, Global Design. "It's not easy, but it is a necessity."
Sounds good.

I'm still worried about Bob's "$48,000 is realistic" initial price tag.

This thing cannot stumble out of the gates. GM has been trumpeting this car for so long, to bring it in at THAT price or to underdeliver on the promises would stick in many peoples' minds as "same old GM".

I wonder how much the styling was affected because of the modifications necessary to get that drag coef.

A 48k electric car will BOMB.

The people that care most about gas mileage are the ones that can least afford it!

But possibly GM is hoping people will buy the volt for the 'feel good' aura that the Prius has garnered?

this NEEDS to be one of those kinds of cars where profit doesn't matter. In this case, the image and the technology learned for future use will pay off in the long run.

Sounds like when they go on sale a Government rebate could be offered to make it more accessible to fine citizens of this country.

that's not necessarily true, although people who have less money want a car with the best fuel economy, those people couldn't afford a prius anyway..

ALOT of the people I see driving hybrids have plenty of money and do it not because fuel costs but because of image. Obviously there are many cases opposite of this(like anything else), I dont see the prius as being a cheap car really.

fail...especially when the general public thinks the Prius will be the same exact car to compare to..kinda wonder now how much te Prius would be if Japan's goverment did not pay for much of the RnD costs....

Pricing aside, is anyone else concerned that GM is just now getting ready to do road testing with mule vehicles for a product that is supposed to go on sale in less than three years? That's an extremely aggressive timeline for new technology.

No kidding. The link even mentioned that they were trying to test a 10 year battery life in 2 years time. I suspect though that there is some research and analysis coming from the suppliers on this one to help out.

Either that, or the Volt is going to get delayed even more.
