I don't know. There are lots of old farts (compared to some of you guys), like me who don't want an SUV.....but are looking for a large, cool, fast 5 passenger car to haul a wife and three kids in.

what about Fords new DOHC 5.0L V8? isn't there a create version of this engine? why can't they use that? seems to me like the Marauder just needs a little more displacment.

The 5.0 is an offroad engine. The compression is too high on it to run 92. A toned down version maybe. It'd just be easier to put in the S/C 4.6 or S/C 5.4 (which it looks like they will be doing eventually). Imagine having the 500hp future S/C 5.4 from the Lightning and GT in the Maurader. That'd be nuts.

if they do put the s/c 5.4 in the stang, i just hope they dont use the iron block like they did with the 03 cobra's 4.6...that would inch it VERY close to 4000lbs

They'd have to come up with a beefier alloy block then.

According to an SVT source, they went to the iron block for the Cobra because some aluminum blocks were having "catastrophic failures".

That information is so incorrect it isnt funny.........Not bustin ur ***** but mainly SVT's.IF they wanted to use the alum. block there wouldnt of been ONE problem with the alum. block handleing the power.Putting the forged internals in the aluminum block would of raised the price of the car.The iron block was used to save costs,Nothing more nothing less.

There are guys with aluminum Cobra blocks that are making 1000hp at the crank where making 400hp on that block is kinda of a kids game in comparison...So trust me SVT is pullin peoples chains.

So i guess that means they will put the Ford GT40 engine in there eventually...I just hope they don't PRICE the car like the GT40...

It's hard to believe we're actually discussing a 500HP stang in the near future. It's only been 3 years since the 2000 Cobra R came out with 385 HP, and me and my friends never thought FoMoCo could build a better stang from the factory without charging twice as much.

Maybe. But I find it hard to believe that SVT wouldn't use an aluminum block on the Cobra...just to save $100-$200.

No. Z28forever is correct. I believe I read it in a carandriver magazine, or motortrend.

Yes, maybe you've seen some Cobra's with aluminum blocks making whatever horsepower, but that doesn't change the fact that Ford has to mass produce these things. They can't afford to have 2 out of every 10 of their cars having "catastrophic failures". I don't think they want to try and sell a $40,000+ Cobra because of modifications to the aluminum block either and still be somewhat unreliable. If that's the case, just buy a vette.

I AM a SVT "OWNER",I think I know what Im talking about.Motor Trend is "only" repeating the B.S. Colletti told them..The aluminum 4.6 can easily handle the power the 03 Cobra has.And yes cost was an issue.Look at it this way-1 thing wont make a difference,BUT more then one thing in total will have a major effect on the pricing of a vehicle.Thats why the alum block ended up on the chop list.

I WISH people would stop thinking M/T is the holy bible of auto info...

The GT (40) engine is aluminum.BUT if you were to go by what Schismblade read in motor trend the thing is going to blow up so,I hope noone gets into the gas peddle~!!!I mean FFS it has 110hp more then the 03 Cobra engine..

You type like a third grader. I'll listen to M/T over someone like you anyday. It seems to me as if you have a fanboy syndrome.

Your second post just proves my point even further.

If you would read my previous post again, you would see that I already stated that Ford choose the iron block instead of the aluminum because they wanted to keep the price of the mustang down. I don't know where the GT40 came from.

This here is what I was refering to^.Sure the iron block was used to keep costs down that is plain to see,But so many jump the gun to believe that the aluminum block cant handle the horsepower/torque that the 03 cobra puts out from reading the bs in M/T.How many times have you heard of a 96-01 Cobra owner ever saying they had a catastrophic failure due to the block.Yes they have had rods break,Pistons crack but they dont have the same forged internals of the 03 Cobra engine
Plus the stock 96-01 engine has to high of a compression ratio to use boost reliably,Compared to the 03's 8.5

My GT40 engine comparison came from the quoted post. There is nothing more then deck hieght from the 4.6 and the 5.4 aluminum blocks. And if the alum. 4.6 couldnt handle 390hp how could the 5.4 handle 550hp......Going by M/T..............I hope I cleared this up for you.

For the record my snicker is more with M/T then you anyway.Im wondering how do they think the MACH1 has the 98 Cobra engine in it?It is clearly a 01.........

Probably cause of the 305hp rating, which is the same rating as the 96-98 32v 4.6's. In reality, the Mach-1 dyno's a little more than even the 01 Cobra's.

You are right about Motor Trend. There is plenty of times they printed stuff that the average person on this board knew was BS.

On the other hand, John Coletti is the person running SVT. He has a heavy background in Drag Racing, & Engineering, and is a very honest and direct person who is proud (and comically cocky at times) of his vehicles. He's not going to BS anyone, and doesn't need to.

You are 100% correct about the cost issue (that was a factor), but another factor is that SVT was screamish after the last Cobra fiasco. Maybe the alumunum 4.6 can handle the boost of the blower, but SVT wasn't going to take that chance.
