SVT has probably gotten a customer for life here. It's going to be a difficult decision deciding between an '03/04 Cobra rag or an LS1 rag as soon as my insurance rates drop.
Yeah, I'm an SVT fan for life now too! I love the way they treat you.

You can't tell me that for the same price as a Z06 you are getting Corvette level quality, fit and finish, and value...because you're not, you are getting Mustang level quality.
Ummm, have you bothered to sit in a 03 cobra lately? The quality of the whole car is pretty damn good, specially given its on an outdated platform. A couple fixes needed for the interior, but overall a damn awesome job on SVT's part and one of the most solid cars I've sit in to date, less the AMG C32 my ex has )

BTW: Although Ford's customer service has taken some catastrophic hits the past 10 years, it's SVT service has been 5 star all the way. You can call SVT direct if you have a problem, & they have a history of bending over backwards to solve any issue you have. You don't have to wait forever to get your car back either. Try getting that type of specialized service with your "SS".
SVT certainly has it's stuff together.

Before I bought my SVT Contour...I was merely looking for a 5 passenger daily driver that was fun to drive and had a manual trans. It quickly became apparent that GM had nothing to offer me at the time. I was this close to purchasing an Audi A4 1.8T Sport Package. On a whim...with about 30 minutes to kill...I decided to test drive an SVT Contour.

Within the first 45 seconds of my test drive, I forgot all about that A4 and ended up buying...what I felt...was the better performing SVT.

Why?

Because SVT literally has free reign to re-engineer the vehicles they release to perform well. Just the lengths that SVT went to, to get the right exhaust note on the Contour are impressive. Agressive burble at low RPM....F1-esque shriek at high RPM. SVT put an incredible amount of developement into this package just to get it to sound right. Lots of suspension tuning too. Brakes from their European parts bin. And lots more. They go the extra mile on their products, service and enthusiast support.

There is no Chevy equivalent to SVT. SS plays a different role for Chevrolet.

Add SVTOA (SVT Owners Association) into the mix also.

There are SVTOA chapters throughout the US and Canada. There are many yearly Ford sanctioned racing events and other get togethers for SVT owners. These events will be drag racing, road racing, car shows, cruises, or a few all at the same event.

SVTOA chapter heads get invited to private SVT future product showings, and get to REALLY talk to the people inside SVT............. including all the big boys. What they say really makes a difference (yes, they even get to sign those little confidentiality agreements).

Thus, as an SVT owner, you really do have a say in what happens to the product.

When was the last time you could say that about ANY product built by a huge mega conglomerate???

BTW, Al............. I changed my signature just for you. Frankly, I am getting sick and tired of being labeled a "Ford girl." I like well built stuff................. and I don't care who makes it. Do I love my SVT (and the one I had before this one)............. you bet your *** I do. Don't you wish GM would do the same for you??? What you need to ask yourself, Al, is "what has GM done for you lately???"

Now............. go jump in your Impala SS and drive away (you stud you).

PS, to those interested, there was a post on F150online.com about the upcoming Gen III Lightning. While those who attended the meeting cannot tell anything remotely specific, they do say that its performance is going to knock your socks off. They said that Dodge and GM (big surprise there) will be playing catch up for a long time. Don't anyone shoot me............. this is what was said by someone (a couple actually) who has actually seen the upcoming product (and isn't just pulling conjecture out of his **** orifice).

Linky?

That would truly be amazing to top the SRT10 Ram. But as long as they can keep the next Lightning light in weight like they have before, they don't need more than 500 HP to top the Rams record...

That supercharged 5.4 in a Lightning for 40-50K =

While the Lightning may have lost the top speed record to Dodge, they are still currently kicking butt at the drag strip. Here in Houston the Lightnings are beating the SRT-10 trucks repeatedly. The SRT-10 just can't hook up.

see, why would bow to a L for 40-50k, but then call the SRT10 overpriced? Not talking about you directly, but people in general. When the price for the SRT10 hit, everyone was like "you can get like 023840238409 used L's for that price" but when the L is priced at there, its praised?

I always thought the Ram would come out being $60K or higher. I still can't afford one, but their much cheaper than I thought they'd be.

Food for thought.

Rumor has it that the SRT-10 Ram and Viper will get an all new, 600 hp HEMI based V10 by '07.

Wow, I could see 500 hp, but 600 hp Sounds awesome, but how are they going to get any traction in a truck? They can't get traction now with 500 hp!

I was thinking that if the Lightning came out with the power that most people think it will that its heavier (as far as I know) chassis will actually help keep it planted. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

rumors had it the lightning 5.4 S/C engine was out powering the ford GT's by 45 flywheel HP. Thats why the GT got that HP increase towards the end.

If thats the case look for the lightning to cme in at 545HP-550HP.
And if the weight is in check, look for any 600HP hemi to get smoked.(minus the viper car)
