I fear all this. I fear one day we will look back on the '04-'06 GTO and wax on about how lightweight cars used to be.

Some very interesting Challenger early sketches and clay.

Great find Charlie! Thanks for posting it man. I am so excited about this coming auto show, I never thought I would get a chance to watch the re-introduction of two of my all time favorite cars, Camaro and Challenger. Now, all we need is a Superbee or GTX

The more I see it, the more I like it. It appears that Chrysler already has a hit with the Challenger. Can GM do the same with the Camaro will be the big question.
I see that the designer owns an F-body.

Standing in the parking lot of DaimlerChrysler's Pacifica Design Studio in Carlsbad, California, automotive designer Michael Castiglione motions us over to the black 1970 Camaro he drives to work every morning. "I've owned it since I was 17," says the 38-year-old. "I put in a new crate motor a few years ago. Runs great."
Although the Chevy is clearly Castiglione's pride and joy, the tour around the classic muscle car is a short one. Castiglione would rather speak about his latest design, the highly anticipated Dodge Challenger Concept.

Early sketches, according to Castiglione, had a lot of Cuda influences, which makes a ton of sense. The 1970 and 1971 Plymouth Barracuda, was the sister car to the Challenger, and it's the more iconic of the two machines today. But the death of Plymouth in 2001 killed the Cuda Concept from ever seeing the light of day. Instead the car had to be a Dodge.
Damn. We would have had a 'Cuda if Plymouth was still around.

I can tell you that for me, the '70 'Cuda (the '70 SPECIFICALLY), is a close second to the Camaro, as one of the cars that influenced me greatly, at a very young age. (Thank God the 70 1/2 split bumper Z/28 came out the same year...or I could have been converted into a full on Mopar guy/kid for good...right then and there.). But it was a Plymouth Barracuda.
In fact as a kid I found all the Plymouths MUCH cooler than their corresponding Dodge's. Challenger was waaaaaaaaay down the pecking order compared to 'Cuda for me. Plymouth Duster was way cooler to me than Dodge Demon...and so on.
It's interesting to read that story though, and see the pics in the background on the video.....and put all that together with some of the rumors of the past few years.
A couple of years ago, there were rumors that a coupe concept was spotted with a 'Cuda emblem on it. Well, the story confirms that a 'Cuda was considered.
About a year and a half ago, there were some rumors about a coupe called Super Bee. Well, there's the sketch.
The other big rumor was that a "Challenger" concept would have appeared at the '04 SEMA show. It would have been a small 2+2 coupe with a "six pack"...which was interpreted as some sort of HO V6...maybe turbocharged. Wonder what happened to that?
Anyway, looks like there's enough coupe concept drawings in the background to make at least one more coupe.
