Misc. GTO ?'s to look for answers to at LA/DET.
1) Whats the release date for these babies? When can you start pre-orders?
2) Is there going to be a 366HP AND 405HP engine or just one? (That would be awesome if it came available with both engines, imagine our excitement if the Camaro came available with a 366HP engine as the BASE option
)
3) Available with Conv./T-tops/Moonroof?
4) Pricing, is it going to be a lotta bang for the buck ($25K-$30K)? or a lotta bang plus good quality ($30K-$40K)?
5) If the F-body didn't succeed as an affordable, somewhat-practical, performance car, what makes GM think the GTO can? Is it going to have bigger rear seats with trunk space, more like a family sedan?
6) err...I'll think of more later...
And here is an update from Branden Farthings NewAgeGTO.com website yesturday, but no one has posted it here yet so I'll take the honor...
GM Confirms 2004 GTO Debut Date and Time, along with Minor Trim Information.
In a conversation today with Pontiac's GTO media representative I was made aware that the 2004 GTO will debut at 10:45AM PST on January 3, 2004 at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. The debut will be webcast on GM's media site live . There are two GTO show cars in existence and they will be close, but not 100% representations of the final productions model. There are still many issues to be resolved involving final HP numbers. Though the press representative would not confirm the HP figures that Mr. Lutz announced in his speech last week, he could not deny them. He said that he had no knowledge of the specifics of the specific speech.
Also on a minor note, he confirmed that the GTO will not have Pontiac's trademark red lighted interior. Instead it will share the Monaro's color coordinated gauge and seat interior trim in colors such as blue and red.

1) Next fall.
2) 360hp+ the 1st year, 405hp in 2005.
3) Hard top only with moonroof optional.
4) When announced, it was to be $35K, but the Australian dollar has dropped since then to the US$, so hopefully GM will pass the difference on to us. As far as quality, it's excellent compared to anything GM sells here now..... including Cadillac (first hand experience here).
5) GTO isn't meant as a F-body replacement. A Grand Prix GTP coupe replacement, maybe. A replacement for the low-slung, cramped, Corvette-like F-body, most definately not.

I fully intend to be there when GTO is unveiled here in Cali. I'm making plans right now.

When did you see it first hand!?
I went to Melborne, Sydney, and the Gold Coast in July, and one friend of mine worked for Holden and another was part of a Holden club. During that trip I got to check out & ride in an Monaro CV8 and in Sydney I had a chance to drive a CV6 (the supercharged V6 version that comes with only an automatic) for about 15 minutes. Also on a trip to Australia back in 97, I had use of a Commodore V8 for about a week.
If those Holden's interior quality is transfered to the GTO, these Camaro's are going to start feeling awfully cheap.
