Limited Edition (only 25) "Signature Series" SSR

http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content...._code=05957805

Supposedly pre-full production specials... limited to only 25.

One thing I noticed from the pics is it looks like they ditched the "Chevy Spear" across the rear of the vehicle. that was on the concept, and I thought, the later "production model" prototype...

Looks cleaner without it, IMO....

From the rear at least, it looks pretty sweet.

It's a pretty neat idea taking it on tour like that with all the different themes. I'm sure it'll revitalize interest in the truck.

SSR=mistake. GM, get some new designers fast, especially before you decide to start working on a 5th Gen.

The limited-production SSR should ring in at around $40,000.

I guess I won't be getting one of those things!

I'm not a big retro fan at all but I do like the SSR.

I like it because it isn't a total rip-off of Chevy's long-past trucks, it uses cues and wraps them in more modern sheetmetal, especially in the rear. I did like the concept version better though.

Is it just me, or is the SSR taking way too long to get to market? I'm pretty sure I saw the SSR for the first time at the same detroit auto show where I saw the pt cruiser concept. Since then, pt cruiser has made it to market, and been there long enough for people to start getting bored of it, and yet, still no SSR. What gives?

When Chevy gave SSR the green light 3 years ago, they didn't even know what chassis they were going to put it on. Also, I think there were some bugs to work out with that folding roof.

Hopefully the crop of cars on display next month will be developed faster. If not, we won't see them on the street till 2006 as 2007s.

I agree about how long it is taking...

SSR isn't even out yet, and it seems old.

I agree Darth. It seems like the SSR has been swirling around for ever. Like guion mentioned....they had some issues with the folding top...but geez, how long does it really take to rebody a Trailblazer.

....and it doesn't look retro to me anymore....it's looking old.

Great, another truck. Only this time it's round and bulbous.

If there is no market for an F-Car, then where is the market for this thing?

lol, well I'm sure this is just more the case with us, who pay more attention to this type of thing. I believe it was only 2000 that it was unveiled as a concept, so going to production in 3 years is still pretty quick--especially for the "old" GM.

I was reading this story on AutoWeek a couple days ago and someone stopped me remarking over it and wandering what it was, so I don't think the general public is bored with it yet.

It's the same market occupied by the T-Bird and previously Prowler; the $40k+ car show/weekend toy market. Not quite the same as the F-body market.
