Being an employee of a Lincoln/Mercury dealer I can confirm the above post. Our sales manager is currently looking over the specs on 05 models. So they will be around at least another 2 model years.

And calling an Aviator a rebadged Explorer or Mountaineer? Is that like calling a Cobra a rebadged Mustang GT? The Aviator gets the DOHC 4.6... Although the customer base isn't necessarily performance oriented, it WILL keep pace with a Marauder. It'll outrun any SUV GM produces.

The Blackwood was a short run production from the start, designed to use up existing stock before switching over to the new platform.

I also seriously doubt the Mercury brand will be killed off. We sell Grand Marquis' like nobody's business. Fit/finish is much improved over the Crown Vic, and the name sells the car. Mercury can do whatever they want with other vehicles as long as they don't screw up the only good thing going for them - the Grand Marquis.

Besides, why is everyone picking on the rebadged Fords that are sold at a "higher brand level"? Last I checked the Firebird was just an overpriced rebadged Camaro
Struck a nerve, did we?

Sorry, but this just cracks me up. I've been living "Crown Vic and Grand Marquis" 5 days a week for the last two years and the cars are so similar it's not even funny.

I'll agree to that. I don't know who's buying them, but they sell an awful lot of those cars. Today's random trivia: The Crown Vic is the NUMBER ONE SELLING CAR in Saudi Arabia!

Well, put it this way...my parents just bought a FORD (sshhhhh...don't tell anyone, I don't like that getting around ), a loaded Limited Explorer. And lemme tell ya something...

It isn't a bad vehicle, at all. I wouldn't be caught dead in it, because I hate SUVs....ALL SUVs. Plus, it is a Ford. What I can say is this...they did look at the Aviator, and it did NOT give substantially more car, but was substantially more $$...what gives??

The SUV I really don't get these days though is the new SRX. I love it...its extremely nice, and one of the only SUV-type cars I would even consider, if I had the $$. BUT...why does a V8 AWD one cost MORE than an Escalade? Wtf????

Who's buying them? Did you ever go to south Florida? That place is Grand Marquis mecca my friend.

A couple of years ago we went down to visit my in-laws. The wifey and I borrowed my father-in-laws' white Grand Marquis to go see a movie.

When we came out...there were another EIGHT white Grand Marquis' parked next to us. Good thing ours' had Illinios plates...
