2002 Lincoln Continental concept????

http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/020103la-1.htm

What ever happened to this 2002 Lincoln Continental concept? I know it's only a year old, but what's the 411 on it? Do you see similarties between this and the Ford 427? and do you see this being the next Continental and Crown Vic? Looking at the pics, that is one awesome interior and screams luxury. The v12 and the 6spd automatic tranmission sound nice too.

This thing would be pimp. I hope Ford gets as serious about the Lincoln division as GM has with their Cadillac. Lincoln Mercury manager, Brian Kelley, was quoted as saying "We are presenting the Continental to show where we will take the brand in the near future". My question to you guys is, where do you see Lincoln heading?

Much of the Continental concept is going to end up on the Lincoln LS redesign in a year & a half.

I posted this in a Mercury thread not too long ago, but Lincoln's direction has changed drastically since a year and a half ago. Back then, Ford was taking Lincoln global, and the Mark & Continental were actually concepts headed to production. Lincoln was also going to bring out a sub-LS sized RWD sedan aimed at BMW's 3-series, which I think was supposed to share with Ford's Fairmont (my speculation). Needless to say, all that's changed now.

Ford was going to take Lincoln global at the expense of Mercury (they finally admitted they were going to kill Mercury off!). Now, much of that money is going to be moved back into Mercury, meaning most of Lincoln's plans have been either killed or very modified.

So far, the only thing that's certain is the LS will be rebodied in less than 2 years, and the Town Car will finally get a restyling, possibly about the same time or the following year. The Navicross is another vehicle Ford is looking at producing, and the Mark coupe may yet come off the back burner, but I'd only be guessing in the dark if I said anything else about those 2.

Ford's keeping Lincoln to roughly where GM is moving Buick: American Luxury (Cadillac is well on it's way towards going global). Though on the surface it seems Ford is giving up competing with Cadillac, the logic Ford is using is that they have the Premium Automotive Group (Jaguar, Aston Martin, & Volvo) to compete on the world stage, since they own those companies now.
