Btw, how did the old V10's sound? I don't think I've ever heard one.

You know I was in/or had a V10 SD for the night a long time ago. I do not remeber anything dd or interesting about it. But faulty memory could play into it. But nothing stood out from my recollection.

I don't think even the savants at Ford exhaust development could make a V10 sound good based on what I've heard from Vipers. I just don't like it...

). But I believe the first gen Lightning (with a 240 hp 5.8L), which was on the F150 of 2 generations back, was out before (or at the same time as) the 454SS (SS had a a bit less peak power IIRC, but made MONSTER torque). They were about equal in a straight line, but the Lightning was the better handler, IIRC (17" wheels, etc.).
But yes, the Cyclone was before both. However, it was very limited in volume and "truck" abilities, and was discontinued. The Lightning was more at the forefront of the modern "performance truck", particularly since for whatever reason, the focus has been on full sizes.

What about the dodge lil red express wasnt it the fastest american production vehicle in the years it was produced.
If they do bring the lightning back I think it should be radically different than the regular f-150 style wise.

I would have to agree, though i thought it was a nice looking vehicle. Those "stacks" werent right for that truck but then again I guess it was unique

One of the biggest problems the Syclone and Typhoon had, were their horribly high pricetag, and complete lack of utility. The Syclone had a bed you couldn't use (payload was enough for two people, and a Playmate cooler), but at least it was very fast. The Typhoon was heavier, more expensive, not as fast, and still had no payload (see Syclone).
The Lightning became successful because it was reasonably priced, damn quick for its day, handled amazingly for a truck, and still had truck utility.

As in Ford GT? The GT is/was a limited production car. Ford had a limited window of oppertunity to produce the car due to regs but supposedly the car will not pass future safety standards, ergo an end to production.
