Lets talk weight and where it adds up...
Internet etiquette demands something along the lines of "I would just like to say IMO I'm right and anybody who doesn't agree is STOOPID!"

anyways, now back to the program and working my way up the thread ladder here...
That "big bum" is within 0.2" of the Camaro's. In other words, they're essentially the same.
My point is not that the F5 is individually a big car....but that ALL cars are MUCH bigger than they were before.
I know it's apples and oranges, but say, compare a first gen Mustang to the current model...or a Vega to a Cobalt or....
The trunk lid heghts on new cars is mid chest high to an average person....quarter panel height dimensions on new cars are gynormous.
Why?

2. Aerodynamics.
But you knew where the thread would end up before you read the first sentence.

That only works if you assume that there will be no other idiots on the road.
If you think simply not giving these idiots a license will keep them off the roads, I'd argue that would be wrong for the most part, as they'd drive without a license anyway (and many currently do)....
And even if it there were a way to execute the perfect system, and had a way to identify every idiot before they used their idiocy on the roads, you'd have to assume are not idiots handing out the licenses in the first place.

In other words, I don't trust the other people on the road, therefore I *WANT* all this safety stuff.

I have almost been T-boned twice by some dimrod that ran a stop light... not just running a yellow light that turned red, an actual stop light! At a high rate of speed! One time I braked just in time, the other I spent a few seconds of a green light closing a glove box. Both times I would have been killed or at least breathing through a machine the rest of my life.
Then there's the countless times people have come over into my line without signal or even checking their mirror. Then there was the moronic lady in a minivan about 5 or 6 years ago that came over to my lane almost forcing me into the gaurdrail, I blew my horn, and she promptly jerk her wheel back and flipped her van over on the shoulder. Everyone was belted in, so there was no serious injuries, but there was some empty beer cans that were in the wreck.
This Camaro has been rearended twice (none serious because of that 10mph bumper), I've been sideswiped on a city street, and the driver had the ***** to try and run away from me. In a Mitsubishi Lancer. Her dads. She finally pulled over 8 blocks later when she realized she wasn't going to get away. Asked her why she didn't stop. Answer? She was late for class. Had SFPD on the cell the whole time and they arrived on scene instantly. But couldn't charge her for hit and run, because I caught her.

We certainly have the world's share of completely boneheaded drivers. But to be realistic, if you were to change driving laws, you would have everyone and their brother flooding their representative's office with letters about how they can't get to work, or their childred to school, or some other hard luck story. It's politically easier to mandate safety equptment and crack down on teen drivers (who don't vote) than to potentially take away liscenses of millions of horrendous drivers who haven't caused a fatal accident or gotten points on their license... or had a drink on the way home.
Same here. If they came as a convertible, I'd have one... In terms of just pure body shape, I may have to rank them above the first gens (which I also love).

(And yes, this pic also illustrates the tall rear syndrome very well, which I also witnessed at Good Guy Nats in Indy when I saw one next to a '69...)

Compared to what, exactly? Its shadow isn't much bigger than the Mustang's. The Mustang is actually taller of the two, but a little narrower.
Like I keep saying, I think Camaro's proportions are exceptional in any context.

PS Typo: Camaro's length should actually read 190.4"

From that angle, I do prefer the proportions and classic good looks of the 2nd gen.
I parked my 4th gen next to a 5th gen yesterday. I can sort of see what Charlie's on about. Sitting in my car, my eyes were about level with the window baseline. I think it'd be the same thing with a Challenger, however. But then people seem to complain about getting into and out of my 4th gen....
My point is, pictures can be deceiving as you don't see the image from directly behind/front of each car, nor do you see the image from a favorable height.
I have to say that early 21st century automotive design mostly doesn't appeal to me that much. It's not just the pony cars -- look at the current crop of BMWs....
Correct. The Mustang also has high beltlines and small windows -- just not quite as high and small as the Camaro and Challenger.

Just as it's pointless to compare weights.
Having said that, it's interesting that Camaro is 300lbs heavier than Mustang and Challenger is about 300lbs heavier than Camaro. I guess this reflects the relative size of each car more so than individual hardware items such as suspensions, engines, features etc... (well that's my opinion).
On that note, is it safe to say that it's pointless to draw comparisons between today's designs and yesteryear's?
