The last brochure Z28 & SS were in (1972)
I still stand by this statement:
As far as 350 Camaro's beating Z/28's in 60's drag racing 99SilverSS... Have you ever herd of Herb Fox, Fred Gibb, or Dave Strickler?
The "Z/28" has a history unique to Camaro; whereas the History of the "SS" goes back to a trim package on a six-cylinder 1961 Impala and is also going to be used by GM on everything from 4-cylinder fwd econo-boxes (Cobalt SS), to sluggish pig awd pickup trucks (Silverado SS) over the next few years.
Certainly if the Camaro is reborn it deserves a much better image than the modern-day "SS" has to offer.

Who cares about the 60's 350's when my LS1 "350" can beat the ol Z/28's!
My point wasn't the 350 being a better motor than the 302 besides in c.i. although it has argueably more potential. If GM had put as much effort into the 350 as they did in the 302 or even the 396-427's then the 350's would've really been sweet. The point was the SS had more engine options, and more powerful ones as well.

Before you try, no ones going to convince me an engine alone that cost over $4,000 (when a well equpted Camaro SS cost just a hair over $3,000..... for the whole car!) and a production run of just 69 cars is a production vehicle.

How lame. I hope you meant that with extreme humor - thus the smilie - but even at that, your argument for SS being King of Camaroland just lost LOTS of ground.
Along those lines, I can arrange for you to run your big-cube LS1 against a puny, little, stock 281 ci engine if you like. It's a 2003 model. Giving up that many cubes to your 350 would surely give you a victory over the 'lil Cobra, wouldn't it? After all, you put 30 years of technology behind your choice to run against the '69 Z/28 302 car, I'm only asking for 1 year between my choice and yours...
OK, that was unfair. I'd rather see your 350 played with by a stock 40-year-old engine. Lemme see if I can arrange for a buddy in Charlotte to dig out a stock AC Cobra 289. NO, make that a Sunbeam Tiger 289... No make that a Sunbeam Alpine.... no make it a... oh Nevermind. None of that junk has GM written on it. I need to go do some research.
While I'm doing that research, I'll look for a manufacturers championship won with an SS. I'll let you know if I find one!
I sincerely appologize for the sarcasm, but that was just WRONG.

I don't see the issue of trim level hierarchy deterring someone from buying an otherwise worthy automobile. Currently, it seems Chevy is content to have "SS" be the top model designation for everything outside of Corvette.

Your second post in this thread was pretty cool IMO. You stated your OPINION as just that, and I read it all - open-minded and earnestly. You yourself chose to compare the 302 against the 350 and even 396, now in this last post you say something like this...

Nice ProudPony. Very Nice.
Every time I've challenged his statements he's come back with a different version to justify his stance. This leads me to one conclusion. He knows less about cars than my 17 year old.Years ago I had a friend with one of those 289 Tigers. I think you're right on that one!
Actually, if you're looking for a 350 version of the 1st gen Z/28 "Special Performance" 302.....look no further that the '70 Z/28's LT-1. Because, essentially, that's what it was...with another .48 inches of stroke.
