Not that your response was pointed at me, but by that logic isn't a Honda manufactured in Ohio by U.S. workers an American car--a true American car even, by your definition.

Needless to say there is no clear answer (if factoring in where this part came from or where this car is produced and whose labor is producing it). Only thing left to stand behind is origin/ownership of the actual company doing the manufacturing. The auto industry is a global business and that isn't going to change.

If I buy a Pontiac I'm going to accept that it's American. If people from a foreign land can gain citizenship in the US, I'm going to say a car can too (especially if its parents already lived here).

Very interesting way of looking at it.

It didn't mention where the platform would be produced in that article, so who is that guy to say its a true "american" car ?? Its not a true american car until its produced in america, where its supplying U.S. jobs.

Maybe your the ignorant one?
i think you're confused maybe? because you seem to be disagreeing with me and supporting my point at the same time.

btw, not caring if something i say or do offends anyone would make me callous which is not the same as ignorant.

I was agreeing and disagreeing. That guy did sound a little ignorant about it, especially w/out having all the facts, like you said, maybe hes an ignorant nationalist...but then again, its good to at least have a little bit a patriocy. In your post you said "ignorant nationalist," like it was directed at just nationalists that don't know what their standing up for. Then you said "I don't care if that offends anyone." It just sounded (to me) like you were saying you were offending all nationalists.

Anyway, this is officially a hijack now, sorry... I'm very glad to hear that this chassis is going to be produced. I'll be one of the first in line for a Pontiac Solstice (or whatever the production name) if it still looks like the concept somewhat.

If GM had not purchased SAAB, I don't believe turbos would currently have a bright future at GM.

SAAB engineers really know turbos.....and they are bringing this expertise to the GM powertrain party.

What about Subaru?

They know a thing or two about turbos.

They do. But GM doesn't own Subaru outright...they're just major shareholders.

For the most part Subaru is concerned about Subarus. They do their own thing, independent of GM.

SAAB on the other hand is a GM company....all future models are based on GM platforms. And they're powertrain engineers are fully integrated into GM Powertrain.
