The Kappa platform......

If this is true, and I am not saying it isn't, then by the Solstice platform getting a name that would mean that the platform has been approved and has a budget. Now wouldn't this also mean that the car is near being appoved.

Interesting that the article states that an announcement will be coming soon, sounds just like what is being said about another GM sports car-hmmmmmmmm. I find the words "other rear wheel drive derivatives" very interesting.

great news about the Solstice. having said that, the below comment from the other board bothers me.
Damn straight. f*ck Opel. This is about building cars by Americans, for Americans.
what a fackwit. i'm sure the fact that Opel basically donated its entire car line and architecture from the mid '90s for US "powerhouse" GM to build its best cars or "cars of the future" on has nothing to do with the Solstice even being a possibility. i can't stand ignorant nationalists.
btw, i'm not sorry if that offends anyone here.

Here's some more info on Kappa:
1) Kappa is an all new platform.
2) Kappa is only designed to support a 4 cylinder.
3) It will have hydroformed rails.
4) A factory will have to be built or converted to build Kappa's.
5) Solstice on it's own...will not have the volume, to support a plant.
6) Opel and Saturn, may not be completely out of the Kappa program.
7) Solstice will probably NOT be called Solstice when it reaches production.
*BONUS TIDBIT*
Eventhough GM has been working on supercharged 4 cylinders, turbo 4's are in the GM pipeline.

In addition to the SC/Turbo-4, I'd like to see a hybrid powertrain offered as well. I think that would get a lot of attention and good publicity for Pontiac and GM.

I don't understand why they'd want to change it. Solstice is well known among enthusiasts and has gotten a lot of press.

Interesting info, I'd heard the Solstice was to get its own platform since a suitable one wasn't available. Guess I just figured if the Camamro or GTO couldn't get a new one the Solstice wouldn't either. This says a lot about the new direction GM is going in.
Also interesting that GM is considdereing a Turbo Ecotech or other 4cyl motor. When I was there all the talk was supercharge this and that. I remember only a few people even had the idea that a turbo would be better for the car and GM as a whole if the Solstice is to be taken seriously, unlike the Fiero.

If this is a new platform, there has to be another car being built off of it to support production.
A Chevy or Buick twin?

That kills all speculation that the solstice would share the same platform as the camaro and gto.
