Just got back from the NAIAS...ask me anything

at least from the my perspective, if I had to rank those four, it would be:
1. C6
2. stang
3. Solstice (many were pleased with the interior, tightness, and shape)
4. SSR (many people had already seen it, so not much surprise)
But IMO, the most-admired and asked-about car was the Shelby Cobra...it stole a LOT of thunder

So basicly you admit the C6 is the 2nd most admired car at NAIAS?
Shelby Cobra got the most gawks by far...I was just ranking the four models he asked about...
Part of the reason the Cobra was highly anticipated was because hardly anyone was allowed to see it the first day. While we boarded buses in a blizzard to the Detroit Opera House for the vette unveiling, Bill Ford, Carroll and others hosted an invitation-ONLY event elsewhere...So Monday morning, journalists who were shut out (most of us) were anxious to see the car and get the info...
by my estimation, the overall-list of top attention-getters
1. cobra
2. vette
3. stang
4. 412
5. kappa platform vehicles
6. Bronco
7. 612 Scaglietti
8. M-B SLR McLaren
9. Chrysler concepts / 300 Hemi C/ Magnum
10. The 'bling' vehicles: Bentley, Maybach, Rolls, Aston-Martin, Maserati, and a chromed Hummer H2 with 28 (!?!) inch wheels

I just got back from the first public day of the show. The biggest crowds collected around the GT, 'Vette, and Mustang platforms, in that order. You could hardly take a picture. Crowds were incredible. There were lots of people at most of the special showings throughout the show, but those three had the most.
I kept looking at the Solstice and have to agree that that will be an insane tuner car. GM has been hyping the InTec 4-cylinder engine for how it can take big power upgrades, and it starts with 170 hp. Add a blower or a turbo, and it could be seriously fast. Nomad already had a 250 hp version of the engine in it. The Solstice should start at $18,000 from what they said.
To answer the question on why it takes so long to produce a vehicle, making production tools from the prototype designs takes a long time. Some of the stamping dies will take over a year themselves. Manufacturers can hammer a one-off together quickly. To make it a car that moves down an assembly line is a whole different thing altogether.
A couple of notes: If you go there, check out the waterfall in the Jeep area. That was one of the coolest tricks at the show. Also, downstairs in the aftermarket area was a bright yellow '70 Barracuda with a supercharged Viper V-10 shoehorned into the engine bay.

Went to the autoshow this morning. Here is my take on the show.
I really liked GM's showing this year. I sat in the GTO and I love it. I wish I could have the seats in my SS. The more I see the C6 the more I like it, still looks better in Orange. I could not believe how much legroom is in the SSR. I am 6 1 and I never have enough room. The Cobalt is also really cool, I think it will do very well. The Vauxhall Concept is ****ing awesome, I'd LOVE to see a production version of that.
The Nomad really didn't do much for me but I really like the Solstice, it looks a lot better in person. I think this car will be a HUGE hit.
I don't like the Mustang at all. Retro is ok for some cars, but I think it was a big mistake for the Mustang. Overall I was very disappointed with Ford this year. The 500 looked so awesome in concept form but actual production car sucks. The Bronco is another rehash of the past. When Ford will learn to move forward is beyond me.
I liked the Chrysler Concept super car with the V12. Also sat in the viper ram and the magnum, they both were cool.
Over all I give the show a
