Uuuh no. The LS6 has proven to be considerably stronger than the LS2. Motortrend ripped off a 12.4@116 in an '02 Z06 and I believe C&D went almost as fast. The Z51 C6 is a 12.7@113 car in the same hands. The evidence is mounting up that the LS2 is the most underwhelming 400hp motor ever made.
3725lbs curb weight. So let's see 475lbs heavier than a Z51 C6. It's a 13.1-13.2@ ~108 car which is damn good if the price doesn't change.
Now a 2008 3400lb Camaro should do a 12.8-12.9 @ 111 or so or about as fast as the old '03 Cobra.

An automatic LS2 GTO dynoed 428HP at the engine, it looks like the LS2 GTO is putting down S/C Cobra Power or better, and is almost the same weight. I also expect the avg. Vette time to improve, wait until someone does a head to head comparo or GMHTP gets a hold of one.

Oh I know what the dyno graphs show. Hell, based off that I predicted 6 months ago that the C6 would be a low 12@118mph car.
But it's just not being born out in the real world. The vette has now had 3 independent test runs that show it's a 112-113mph in the quarter, C&D, Motortrend, and Motorweek. All ran a Z51 coupe 6spd. RodentTrack got a really low 107 in a vert which I dismissed. Launch technique makes a world of difference in ET but little or no difference in MPH. Sorry man, I'm as disappointed as the next guy, but the LS2 is a dog for 400hp. And it only gets worse in the heavy GTO. Looks to me like GM made a conscious decision not to rock the current Z06 owners boat.
As far as waiting for GMHTP to test, it makes little or no difference because when the same drivers run the Ford cars in MM&FF they typically knock off .5 seconds from the mainstream rag times. And no one here believes the Cobra is a 12.4 car stock or that the Z06 is an 11.9 car.

And yes ....in the right hands and weather conditions , a Z06 is an 11 sec car

I don't know if maybe all the mags tested the same Z51 coupe or if the Vette team made some last minute PCM changes to slow it down, but I guess we won't know from sure until we get some more dynos and 1/4 times from real owners.

Not to mention neither case was run down a real dragstrip . I mean crap , this is the same mag that got 13.8@103 mph out of a 99 Z , and I have seen countless as in more than a 100 diff. LS1 F-bodies in person go 107-110 stock . These stupid instumented magazine tests that seem to be so holy is the very reason everyone calls BS when a awesome driver in good air runs a second or more better than a mag time . Hey editors .....can we at least get a elevation and weather conditons for christ sakes when the instumented test took place ( for the mph ) and just how bad did ya blow the tires off when ya launched , or how lil did ya feather it before WOT ( for the ET ) .

Who cares how bad you blow the tires off at the launch, it's a 112-113mph car with 400+hp in 3250lbs+driver.
Yeah sure at -100DA 50degF on drag radials at HRP it's an 11sec car. But it does run 115-117mph consistently.

How do you rate the car so far, and how long have you lived with it?
I am pretty close to closing a deal on a new 2004 GTO, and trading in my 2002 Monte Carlo SS.
The GTO would be a daily driver car for me... meaning year-rund driving, etc...there are a few issues, for me, thought concerning the switch...
1) OnStar. I know a lot of folks hate it. I love it, and I will miss it since it is not offered on GTO. I really like the piece of mind and extra safety it brings. It can save your life, literally, and I do not like the fact that I cannot get it.
2) Heated Seats. I can't believe these are not standard on the $33k GTO!!! This is one luxury feature on the Monte I have REALLY grown to love.
3) The trunk issue. I posted a request for a picture of the open trunk in the GTO forum, but havent got any responses... Since the gas tank relocation issue has sparked comments from "the trunk is unusable" to "I dont even notice it", I wanted to get a look for myself.. .. obviously, I'll get a good look at it when I get to my dealer, but I've been doing all the leg work from the phone here at my office to this point on the deal...

I'm looking into it also Darth. Rebates are now $3,500.
They're starting to come down from sticker.....the deal I'm waiting for is invoice minus rebates minus my GM points.
