Just drove a GTO.... My Camaro now feels like crap.
I know this has been said before, but I just drove a GTO and from the drivers seat it is every bit better than the Camaro with the exception of the gas pedal
GTO interior is as good, if not better than the Cadillacs. (dealer sold both) I love the suede (sp?) on the doors.
I hope the Zeta GTO can keep this level of luxury/quality.
One question I have is Why is the Holden leather so much better than the rest of GM? I even think the GTO leather is better than the SRX.

Because they use Kangaroo hide down there!!

That interior is awesome (as I've said on many occasions). I've driven the car for a while before. In fact, my buddy is going to test drive one this afternoon, and I think I may cut out a bit early and go with him to check one out again.
The GTO's chairs are really, really nice, but I don't think I'd place them higher than the Caddy (for leather look and feel, not actual seat comfort/support). I think the Cadillacs have really nice leather.
I know what you mean about getting back in the Camaro. The dash/interior is much nicer in the Goat. But I really don't think the GTO has much of an advantage in power, and mine is an LT1!! I mean, I know it is definitely quicker than my car, but my car is louder and still feels pretty fast to me in the 0 to 90 range that I spend my time. Besides, every time I see the rebates and discount and get tempted to hit up a GTO (like I will be this afternoon, for example), I just tell myself that my Camaro is paid for, and I don't need to go into debt for a bunch of coin to have the latest thing. My car is a cam swap away from being able to handle a GTO, and heads and cam away from destroying one. Plus mine looks better (even though I really like the GTO too).
Must...stay...strong...

Re: Just drove a GTO.... My Camaro now feels like crap.
Glad to hear that yet another person took time to actually check out the GTO instead of joining the whining "it's-crap-because-it-doesn't-look-like-a-GTO" masses following heard mentality or knee-jerk instinct.
I've been a fan since I drove a Monaro. Even with 50 less horsepower, it's still a fantastic car. It's very well made, very rugged, and is a pretty fun piece to drive. That's why I got so irritated & jumped on so many people who rushed to question the car's quality and ability or even the country it's made in without even so much as seeing one in person or knowing someone who did (let alone, visiting Oz).
The styling isn't for everyone. If you need something that looks like a jet plane, or a transformer, chances are you'll hate the car. GTO exteriors are bland looking for their performance level, and that's a perfectly good gripe.
But I disagree strongly with those who say the price is too high at 32K (especially those that conviently ignore that the MSRP of top drawer Firebirds were the same or more, as were non-SC'd Cobras).
As more people take time to take a look (and Pontiac dealers get off their high & mighty horse and quit scalping & let more potential customers test drive them) I'm predicting a snowball effect on GTO's sales.

Re: Just drove a GTO.... My Camaro now feels like crap.
I feel the same way, I sat in a GTO just recently and really got a chance to be around the car for awhile and I am now truly enthralled with the car. When the car is on the floor in front of you and not up on a rotating stage, it is truly a different car. Very sporty coupe and by far the best interior in ANY (IMO including the CTS here) GM car. Also the most supportive seats I have ever sat in. Makes our Camaro and my buddy's Cobra buckets look like crap. I couldnt get a test drive, but still a very very sweet car. When the '05's come out, if the '04's drop a good bit in price, it will be at the top of my shopping list.
Re: Just drove a GTO.... My Camaro now feels like crap.
yes, it is a fantastic car. With 400hp, it will silence the "its not fast enough" critics. I cant think of another new car that has everything the GTO has for the money.

Ram Air hood, recessed grills, and some nice chrome 18" along with the '05 upgrades and this car should finnaly get the attention it deserves.
If you want a CTSv coupe, buy a GTO and save $17,000

Re: Just drove a GTO.... My Camaro now feels like crap.
I've sat in one and started it as well, didn't get to drive it ... I have to agree, this is a great looking car.
The only gripe I would have is rear seat access. The seats are fine, but would never get used because it's too difficult to get back there, even to try to slip in a child's seat.
Make one with rear access doors and I'm sold. The sleeper styling looks good to me.

Ouf.
Actually, I do think I remember hearing something about that!
Re: Just drove a GTO.... My Camaro now feels like crap.
Oddly enough, not only did I sit in one today ('04 model), I decided to buy it. The incentives and the dealers willingness to drop the price was just too good to pass up. Other than getting use to the door locks, this thing is great. It actually feels just like my old E36 BMW, just with a V8.

But now after seeing it, I NEED the LS7 Judge ... or '07 Cobra
Re: Just drove a GTO.... My Camaro now feels like crap.
[QUOTE=BigBlueCruiser]It will help. I'd say based off the C6 running 12.7@113, the '05 GTO will run 13.3@107 which is what a strong '02 Fbod would run. Not bad.

Yeah right, that is what the current one runs, maybe a tick slower. I bet it will hit 12's without much trouble.

Re: Just drove a GTO.... My Camaro now feels like crap.
I agree for the most part with everything above. The only thing I don't agree with is the "crap" moniker applied to my car...I think that's being a bit harsh. Indeed, the GTO is probably the nicest driving car I've ever driven, and through the dealership I've been lucky to drive every GM example short of a C5...the car drives gorgeous...
But I think its a little harsh to call a 4th gen crap by comparison. The torquiness of an LT1 feels as good around town, shifts as well, etc. I do see where the GTO is far superior in noise supression and ride quality...but to me that's part of the "bad boy" essence that makes Camaro a Camaro. I don't want luxurious accomodations with a muffled exhaust note that sounds distant, as it does in the GTO.
Put an SLP exhaust and t-tops on it, and then I'd probably worship the car...I have to admit.

Re: Just drove a GTO.... My Camaro now feels like crap.
Went to test drive a GTO today.....well tried anyway.
Young salesman introduces himself to me. 'Hi, I'd like to test drive a GTO'...I say. SALESMAN: "This car has 4 wheel independent suspension, like a European car, a Corvette engine, leather seats....blah, blah, blah.............................................. ........"
This goes on for about 5 minutes...until I say, "Ed, I know all there is to know about this car....GTO is one of the cars I'm considering for purchase...I'd like to drive a six speed".
SALESMAN: " If you drive it, will you buy it today"
'No'.....I said...'I'm just considering it right now'.
SALESMAN"Let's talk numbers before you drive it"
I said....'I just want to test drive it right now, but IF I buy, there is nothing to discuss...I want it for invoice minus $2,000 rebate'.
SALESMAN: "We're not giving them away"
Me..."you will in 30 days, call me when you're ready to let me test drive". Then I leave.
By now, this d!ckh3ad has wasted 30 minutes of my time....
BTW, they had about 15 GTO's in stock....all autos, except for one six speed.
