SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Chrysler LLC on Tuesday reported a 36% decline in June U.S. sales to 117,457 vehicles from 183,347 in June 2007. June sales reflect a continued contraction of the market for pickup trucks and sports utility vehicles, and increases in highly fuel-efficient vehicles, the car maker said. Nonetheless, car sales led the slump, falling 49% to 29,858 vehicles while trucks slid 30% to 87,599.

Only 29,800 cars last month? Wow - there are some individual models from other automakers (like the Honda Civic) that are selling better than all of Chrysler's car lineup.
Or, put another way, it was only a couple years ago that Chrysler was building 20,000 LX cars per month.

Check that. It turned out to be a great idea. In fact, GM management should get some kudos for burning the midnight oil to get their car lineup in shape over the past three years. Just imagine how bad the company would be doing right now without cars like the Malibu or Cobalt. They'd be totally f*cked (pardon my French).

Wanna know the sad thing about the LX? The 300C actually received a fairly substantial make-over for 2008. Did anyone notice? Judging by the folks in this forum and the general reaction of customers, I'd say that it was not a successful MCE.
When you get a car like the 300 that comes onto the car scene and is a huge hit with high sales numbers, you can't simply let the car whither on the vine. It doesn't take long for the market to get saturated and you need a new design. I was told Chrysler planned a 4-5 year model cycle for the 300 beck when it came out, but the car still is here. Looks the same, and will continue to look the same for at least another 2-3 years.
8 years for a single sedan design is a bit long in tooth.
