Will Chevy make a race version of the Camaro?

Ford announced that they will bring back the Cobra Jet factory drag racing pack and Chrysler pretty much just said that you will be able to buy a stripped Challenger for racing.

I think it's a nice idea and 2 yrs ago would have been great. But in this economy and gas prices along with GM having to put time and effort into more pressing priorities if this wasn't already planned and too far along to cut then I doubt it happens for the Camaro. Would be a shame too.

well the CJ isn't really a road going car I gather from the article, and if its around 70k it'll actually be the cheapest factory racer Ford makes. The FR500S is 70k, the FR500C is 130k, and the FR500GT3 is like 225k (or whatever they call the man racer).

However, I really think GM should do it, personally I'd like to see GM's retort (as well as Chryslers) to the FR500C and see them compete in GAR, sure its nascrap on the twisties, but at least the cars have some relavence to actual production machines.

What does economy and gas prices have to do with any of this? This is about factory backed racing, not selling cars to the masses that want the heritage.
