The Straight 6 turbo looks awesome and i wish ford would throw that into the base model mustangs.

You would have a base model that outperforms the V8..does Ford have a corvette rule as such? It gives the LS2 driven HSV's a run for their money.

Could call it SVO-II and be done with it, Then again I wonder if a straight 6 would fit in there? If it did that means so would a V12.

I think the engine would be a better Lincoln or even Mercury motor than Mustang.

We're talking about an engine that's on par with BMW in sophistication (DOHC, VVT), smoothness, and power output. To top it off, Ford Australia races the begeezus out of this engine, so it's extremely tough and has quite a few performance parts.

talkinga bout straight 6's, One of the latest mag's had a pic of then upcoming BMW I6 with twin turbo's. The packaging is a work of art! You can definantly tell some R&D went into packing.

Ford is retarded!!! I work at a dealership and I will tell you that they are years behind GM in performance! They GTs are fast but a 98 LS1 Z or T/A will still smoke it and is a better car period.

Faster yes.

But you'd have a heck of a lot of work to convince anybody the 98 Camaro was a better overall car than the 05 Mustang. It'd take a lot of work to probably convince some of that 98 to 98.

can you quantify the retarded statement, I really want to know what the "retarded" elements are?

Re: If ford dropped the 5.4L 3V Sohc

Yes it is true the GT is due up for some more power. I have talked with several people near and dear to Ford and they confirmed it. Also confirmed was the fact that the 5.4 Mil will be availible only in specialty cars like the future Boss's, Bullits', and the like. The 4.6 will stay, but in what form we don't know. There is a possibility of a 4 valve 4.6, but that would raise the price of the GT as well as the weight.

That Hurricane motor is going to loom on the horizon as more of a distant threat until GM comes to market with the New Camaro, as of right now they have no need to pull out any more specialty motors because they think they have the segment won, and for now they do.

I don't know man. The 98 Mustangs were really something to write home about as far as interior quality is concerned. I woudn't rate my 01 GT's interior to be any better than the z28's interior, as far as quality goes. The GT's ergonomics sucked though, at least for me.

and probably not worth it, given that the GT is only 20 HP shy of the last NA cobra's rated power with a 3 valve head and two less camshafts. the GT would benefit more from an increase in displacement rather than added complexity (was gonna say sophistication, but there are plenty of tricks that don't require anding all sorts of mechanical gizmos)

True enough but I think you'd at least would have a debate there. I don't think anybody in their right mind who is making a judgement of the best "overall" car will pick a 98 Fbody over an 05 Mustang. If there was a way to eliminate the Ford vs Chevy thing and just had people line up and pick I can't imagine a 98 Fbody getting more than 30% of people picking it in a straight up comparison and that's being generous.

You are probably right. I still don't like the 05 Mustang's interior though. There are still plenty of cheap looking parts I can identify easily (vent covers for one).

I wouldn't say years behind based on mustang GT alone. The 03/04 Cobra's, upcoming 500hp GT500, 03/04 Mach'1 are all fast mustangs and there are many more performance-oriented special editions on the way.

What many don't get is that the GT isn't meant to be crazy fast. The GT is meant to be a BASE performance model. And as a base performance model, 300hp and mid to high 13 sec 1/4 miles are more than enough. It has a role and a place on the mustang lineup and it fills that role quite nicely. For those that want factory performance mustangs beyond the GT, Ford will be offering more powerful options in the coming years....one of which is due this summer (the 500hp/480lb-ft tq GT500).
