GM is improving, but they still make typical GM like mistakes (FWD V8 Impala, FWD Pontiac w/ Northstar)
but they ARE improving. Why? Cause people complained, not because people bought their cars when they were slipping.
No, GM isn't perfect but they have a big public perception problem as we all know, and that is a big reason why they have the employee pricing and all that. They DO make quality vehicles and many studies have proven this but in the mind of a lot of the public, "they can't do anything right". That is a hard thing to overcome. One thing they need more of is designs that really "wow" the public and draw imediate attention to that vehicle and the brand as a whole.

As far as a fwd V8 Impala, what import offers anything like that? What import has a rwd, V8 sedan in that price range? What import has a V8 anything that isn't north of 50k? The only automaker that has a rwd volume sedan is Chrysler.

Don't forget that a lot of complaints are subjective and can have arguments either way, while others are more cut and dry. Those are the ones that need to be brought to attention.

alrighty then! so..........what are you saying here? That GM is making mistakes by offering FWD.....but Toyota and Honda aren't???

Seems there was a post on here not too long ago with facts stated from several studies......Service Satisfaction (JD Power)....Initial Quality, Long term quality.......etc......and GM fared extremely well...in fact, above most imports as I recall. (No, I'm not saying GM's perfect.....) But..when the facts were posted, we still heard 'incidental' complaints and, as I recall, there were people who 'pooh poohed' the facts and still insisted by implication that GM built inferior products........worse than average.

I, for one, do not have a problem with people taking on GM --when it's justified.......what I have a problem with is not getting the facts straight.....

As to 'buy American?" .....I use that rule for everything I buy. True, it's impossible in many cases...but when I have the choice........

As to quality......perhaps you need to go back and look at your first post in this thread..........

Hear, hear.

Using the tools of communication effectively is the first step to being taken seriously.

Toyota cars right now don't have any fast cars in the lineup. The V8 models, which are the trucks, are either RWD or 4WD. As for its luxo brand, Lexus, rear wheel drive seems to be the standard.
The quality IS improving, I know that, I never said it wasn't. But they still have a long way to go. Imagine if you saw an ugly Camaro production model and went "Yes I will buy that because it is American" even if it was a 95 horsepower diesel with front wheel drive and 4 doors?

Like I've mentioned several times, I'd like a Buick Riviera, but since it will never come back, I want a Cadillac CTS. If GM can keep it up to par with the German competitors (If you see a top of the line C-class, 3-series, G35, etc.)

Last newest Gm car i spent time with as a Grand Prix GT, and it was of SOLID build quality, good materials, but the styling was...blah. Then they kept at it.
If you don't bitch about it, they won't listen.

Dude, do you ever read what people's responses are to you? Did I say everyone's experience was like mine? NO. Did I claim the "old" GM was not as bad as many seem to think. YES. Now that we have that clear...some people whine just to hear themselves whine. They don't actually whine with a purpose. This thread qualifies for the latter. The quality is already better. Do you think you're making a stand here somehow?

Red,
If/when I can find an American-made alternative, I always take that route. Unfortunately, not many share out sentiments. About the only USA owned/made product I will not purchase are Goodyear tires. I have 4 new GSCs on my Z28, but otherwise...every GM product I purchased with OEM Goodyears has been an awful experience. Crappy handling with Eagle LSs, horrific winter traction with Eagle RSAs, premature cupping and noise with Eagle GTs...forget it.

Glad to see BFGs on GTOs, Pirellis on Cobalts, and Continentals on G6s. Its nice GM doesn't merely defer to Goodyear anymore.

Re: I critisize because I love!

I'm with Red in the "Buy American Whenever I Can" camp.

Now, all I really need to have happen is Buell make the world's fastest motorcycle and I'm set.

Unfortunately, I don't think we can expect for HD to allow Buell to convert to an I4 or V4 anytime soon.

Pity too... Buell's got some amazing technology in everything other than the motor.

Where were we? Oh yeah... cars...

I see no objective reason for anyone to believe that GM's cars aren't as good at anybody else's (and in some cases are far, far better... like trucks and the mighty Corvette). If I want an appliance, 9 times out of 10 GM has the best value.

If I want a truck, GM pretty much makes the best full size trucks on the market.

If I want performance, Corvette stands alone.

If I want luxury, Cadillac has it in spades.

Honestly, GM has got a lot of great things going for it. They gotta toot that horn a little bit more though. Heads up comparisons versus the Japanese makes in particular. Stick it to them.

I would also, love to see GM stick it to em'! IMHO They DO have some great products, and hopefully soon there's gonna be some more........Ahem......cough , cough. As far as I'm concerned second to none! I don't want a free ride for GM.......just fair criticism, no more comments, and cheap pot shots. On the Buell thing, believe me you are not alone! Many Buell fans would love to see them make the fastest production bike. Considering the man himself, and for me I would hope he doesn't go the I4 route. I'd much rather see something different (just wouldn't be Buell if it wasn't), a V4 would be very cool to see. The new motors, are actually pretty good for v-twins. They do have some pretty amazing stuff out, and again if you need the fastest prod. bike........ Buells aren't it. But they are very fun to ride on the street, and make a great deal of low RPM tq. I almost always come back with a big ! As to the thread title....I also tell the GF that, but she doesn't buy it!

Just as an aside. Cooper Tires are American owned and made. Cooper also owns Mickey Thompson and most of Pep Boys tires. Yes, i work for Cooper Tire.
